Wii Fit to Outsell GTA by End of 2008

Recent reports say that Wii Fit, Nintendo’s at home personal training game will outsell Take Two’s vastly popular Grand Theft Auto IV by the end of the year.
GTA IV is often referred to as the best selling game of 2008. Released at around the same time but receiving considerably less media attention, is Nintendo’s Wii Fit. One is marketed at young males, the other, the casual gaming market, which is dominated by, well, everyone — including the elusive female demographic.
GigaOm has a forecast chart displaying sales of both GTA and Wii Fit and quotes analyst Michael Pachter as saying that if the current attachment rate of Wii Fit (one in three) were to remain constant, Wii Fit will outsell GTA.
If Wii Fit does indeed overtake GTA in time for 2009, we’re inclined to believe it will be holiday and New Year’s resolution sales that take it there as opposed to popularity. While there’s no doubt that Nintendo’s game is popular, sales at the moment indicate it’s not as popular as GTA. Take Two has shifted roughly 10.6 million copies of GTA, while Nintendo lags behind with 8.7 million units sold.
Keep in mind that GTA is available on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3, while Wii Fit is exclusive to Nintendo’s machine. Of course, the installed base of the Wii by itself is already formidable against even the combined numbers of Sony and Microsoft’s consoles.
Unfortunately, plenty of people have a problem with GTA and among them, are the parents of many kids who would love to get a copy for Christmas. Wii Fit is a game that tons of people will be given for Christmas but unfortunately the same cannot be said of GTA.

E3 2009 Announced: Return to...

Call me a sexist, chauvinistic pig or misogynist, but time has proved again that women's purchasing power is greater than men.
Also I don't know who is playing Hello Kitty Mumopruguh and SIM. Most people I know play FPS, RTS or "regular" RPG. I may have left that part of brain to become black and fall down while doing usual aim-shoot-kill-teabag reflective cycle.
PC GTA IV is coming out soon. I didn't see that taken into account...
Chaohsiangchen...
Did you mean to say women's purchasing power is lower than men's? This was implied with your initial "chauvinistic pig" assertion.
While you FAILED to make your point, men indeed make more online purchases, and also spend more on things like electronics and software. Its not sexists to point out something so blatantly obvious, that is supported by statistics, and has no negative condensation towards females. (Just because I'm more likely to buy a videogame than my girl doesn't make her inferior to me in any way.)
Back on subject, the sales are going to be very close. Factoring in the Xbox 360 price drop, the PC version of GTA, and its more spendy target audience... unless the Wii has a very strong holiday season, I don't see Wii fit surpassing GTA's sales in time for 2009. Of course, to believe this I am making a completely baseless assumption that the Wii won't sell as well this holiday season (its a glorified gamecube with a fancy controller people!)
Well I don't consider 90% of the Wii's games to be games in the first place. And Wii fit is def not a game.

Well, playability is 90% of the gaming experience, nobody likes ANY game that has sucky controls, and the wii's are surely not sucky.

Then you have clearly never played any wii title
pc gta iv coming out as anonymouse said....
should sell pretty well, maybe 1 mill?
I don't know my sister gave me GTA3: San Andreas for Christmas (lol). Then, again she thought it was just "action" game.
WHO GIVES A F**K!?!?!?!?
I have to agree with another commenter. Calling Wii Fit a "game" and actually comparable to GTA4 from a sales perspective would be like calling a fitness DVD a "movie" comparable to a Star Wars DVD based on sales. It makes no sense and is completely asinine IMO. What the hell is next? Comparing the sales of Crysis to Martha Stewart cookbooks?
