ConnectHD Brings Video Conferencing to HDTVs

- By - Source : Warpia PR

The device extends your desktop by streaming HD content wirelessly and enabling video conferencing on a HDTV.

Last week Warpia revealed the ConnectHD, a wide-angle wireless HD video camera packed with a multi-directional microphone for making video calls right from your living room couch. It also provides an easy way to stream content wirelessly from any laptop or desktop computer to an HDTV without limitation.

"The ConnectHD with HD video and stereo audio enables users to stream any content from their notebook or PC wirelessly to an HDTV in 1080p full high definition," the company said in an email. "Content such as streaming video, pictures, movies, presentations, Facebook, Twitter and other applications can be shown on your HDTV in the room without the hassle and clutter of wires while you continue to use your laptop screen to surf the web, check email, and more."

Essentially this gadget is for consumers who aren't ready to upgrade to a Smart HDTV just yet. It turns their current HDTV into a huge second monitor while also providing a wireless 720p webcam and microphone. Users simply plug the camera portion into the TV's HDMI port, plug the wireless USB adapter into a Windows desktop or laptop, and install the accompanying software. Sharp 1080p content can then be streamed to the HDTV -- provided it's within 30 feet -- while allowing users to check their email, check on Facebook friends or troll the Tom's Hardware forums in the process.

The biggest selling point for ConnectHD is probably in the video conferencing feature itself. Users can make and receive video teleconference calls with the built-in wide angle MJPEG HD webcam and high quality external microphone using applications like Skype or MSN Messenger. The company is also promoting the gadget as a tool for PC gamers which "enhances the gaming experience and transfers game play from the desk to the living room for a more enjoyable experience."

Warpia's ConnectHD is available now for $199.99 USD.

Oh, I bet a lot of the new buyers will go in for this. The added Skype tag is what they'll fall for most probably.

Surely this is in direct competition with and not supported by, Microsoft's Kinect who are supposed to be developing an HD PC version for release early next year. I can see a lot of complaints from people who buy this or similar hardware only to find out that MS won't support it and then find that it is useless with future Kinect PC titles.

I was wondering that too. Don't you still need a mouse and keyboard? If it has wireless usb "out" for hooking up mouse and keyboard, then i'd definitely be interested, but if not then probably not.

If not, then this would probably be a better option.
