Battery Life
The Tecra A9 comes with a 5100-mAh battery.
Toshiba equips the Tecra A9 with a 5100-mAh battery, which provides for up to three hours of run time when fully charged. We tested three scenarios. The Battery Eater Reader test measured battery life while scrolling through a text document with WLAN turned on. Brightness was reduced to 100 cd/m². Then Battery Eater restarted the system and measured how long it took to recharge the battery. Next we measured battery life while playing a DVD with the preinstalled WinDVD software. We used the BatteryMon tool for monitoring. We kept all other settings the same.
Last, we used Prime95 to stress the CPU and measure battery life using BatteryMon again. Here the WLAN and Bluetooth were turned on, and the brightness was set to 100%.
| Test | Running Time |
|---|---|
| Battery Eater Reader | 184 Minutes |
| Battery Eater Recharge | 189 Minutes |
| Prime95 Full Stress | 57 Minutes |
| DVD Playback | 129 Minutes |
Noise Level

When idling, the Tecra A9 is very quiet. Although the fan is always spinning, it’s never annoying.

Even when the unit is fully stressed, the noise level remains tolerable.
Temperature
When the Tecra A9 is idling, its temperature is low everywhere; there are no hotspots. If you don’t mind the weight you can even set it on your lap. Under full load, the left side gets hot around the fan, and the power supply generates a fair amount of heat even when the machine isn’t stressed. If you have the unit on your lap while working, you‘d better be wearing thick pants.
