VIDEO: Dell Thunder Prototype Fondled, Flipped
Four months after details were leaked on the Internet, a Dell Thunder prototype was found in the wild.
The Dell Thunder smartphone made its first appearance back in April, revealing a sleek, sexy look, Android 2.1 with a heavily customized Dell "Stage" user interface overlay, a 4.1-inch WVGA OLED screen, and the promise of Hulu compatibility. Leaked documents also claimed that the device would feature an 8MP camera, on-device image editing, 7.2 Mbps HSPDA compatibility, and more.
Now, an actual prototype has been spotted in the wild. According to a hands-on session with the device, the 8MP camera will include an LED flash and 720p video capture capabilities. It's also speculated that the screen resolution is possibly higher than 800 x 480 based on the 7 x 4 icon grid, however various Android-based Home screen replacements on the Market can actually add an icon row--this may just be a feature built into the Stage UI.
The just-released video showcasing the acquired prototype doesn't offer much in the feature department. The Shaky Cam footage merely sees the device flipped over a few times, revealing a rather slim, sleek device sporting a camera and Dell's logo on the back. The prototype's home screen was virtually void of icons save for a YouTube widget planted at the top.
As mentioned in the video, the Dell Thunder smartphone is expected to be available in Q4 2010. To see the prototype in action, check out the short video below.

good to see so much variety... but shouldnt this be android 2.2 at the release?
Slim, sleek, I don't think so. That thing looks like a loaf of bread it's so thick! Looks twice as thick as my nexus one...
I hope it's higher res than 800x480.
I've always said my next phone will have a 720p screen and a dual core CPU but I don't think I imagined it would happen so soon.

8mp camera...yea, ok.
... so dell... iu...
That guy sounds like he is 12.
You'd be suprised, he doesn't sound too much younger than I do, yet I'm 22.
sick and tired of android devices that run obsolete versions of android.
Froyo has been out for a few months now, so... get on it, manufacturers!
Also, unlocked devices would be nice, if you don't want to put on the device the latest and the greatest software, at least allow us to do that.
Lastly, please emphasize the plain vanilla android and cut it down with the heavily customized UI... usually a poor choice and one that bogs down the device, as well.
dell. 'nuff said
teehee..i love fondlin perrttty things George..
Like I'd want to buy anything other than a mouse from Dell...
