Report: Nintendo DSi Hitting U.S. April 4
The next version of Nintendo’s DS hit Japanese shelves a while back, but so far there’s no estimate as to when we can expect to see it in North America other than sometime this year. Reports today emerged that we could see it as soon as April.
IGN reports that multiple sources close to Nintendo told the publication the company is gearing up to debut DSi in early April. More specifically, April 4. According to website, insiders claim to have been told the handheld game console will retail for $179.99 when it launches in the U.S.
With the addition of 2 cameras, music playback, an SD card slot, and a DSi Shop for downloadable games, the DSi has ditched the GBA slot to achieve a slimmer build and larger screens. Launched in Japan in early November, the console has seen more than decent sales since then.
While it’s seen success in Japan, we’re not sure the current economic climate can accommodate for this kind of barely tweaked device, especially when people are just getting over the belt-tightening holiday season. That said, April is still a few months away so maybe the DSi will have a chance with those who couldn’t get their hands on a DS Lite in time for Christmas. Time will tell, and of course, DSi exclusive software could make the difference with gamers. We’ll keep you posted on this rumor.

Yet another iteration of the same system we've had for years. Are people still buying these things? Nintendo must be laughing all the way to the bank. Next year: They will add a battery that lasts 20% longer, a slightly shinier screen, and charge $199 for it...the same system again.
I'm trying to figure out what this is aswell. It's another iteriation with new features? Is it a new console? Why such a confusing name?
Hey guys,
It's basically the same deal with a couple of extras thrown in. We did a longer piece on this when it first launched talking about the pros and cons of Nintendo rolling more features into DS than most people would probably want. Check it out here.
Finally, Jane is provided with a notebook with real keyboard.
Just like clockwork... expect the new Pokemon Platinum game to have special features only accessible with the new DSi platform..
No GBA slot? So much for playing Guitar Hero On Tour on it.
