In a move that could worry Google and YouTube, Hulu today announced that the company is considering taking its service outside the US.

According to Reuters, U.S. video streaming site, Hulu is thinking about making its first move toward offering content to users outside the America. Citing an executive linked with the company, Reuters reports that Hulu hopes to expand internationally and is interested in Britain, France, Germany and Japan.

While Peter Smith, President of NBC Universal International, parent company of Hulu, told a European Media Leaders Summit that his firm would love to roll out the online video joint venture further but that there were no concrete plans to announce yet, he said the company was interested in Britain, France, Germany and Japan because online video was already popular and growing strongly in those countries.

If it comes to fruition, the roll out of Hulu around the world could spell even bigger trouble for YouTube than previously reported. In a recent article in the Financial Times, Arash Amel, analyst at Screen Digest, forecast that in 2008 YouTube will generate about $100 million in the U.S., compared with about $70 million at Hulu. Amel said that next year, the companies will be neck and neck with ad revenue earned in the U.S. YouTube currently earns around half of its revenues in the U.S. while Hulu is not available outside the U.S. at all.

The deal could mean even faster advertising revenue growth for Hulu than previously forecasted.
