Roving Beer Keg Bot Serves Your Party Guests

8:50 AM - February 8, 2010 - By Jane McEntegart - Source : Tom's Guide US

Love throwing parties but hate serving guests? The Heineken Beerbot is for you.

There's not much explaining to do here. The smartypants scientists at Middlesex University are finally addressing the age-old question: "What good are robots if they can't serve alcohol to your friends?"

Engadget reports that the team are showing off the Heineken Bot at the Kinetica Art Fair in London. This little guy wanders around the room on a pre-programmed path. When a party guest hold his or her hands above its sonar-sensing head and hands the kegbot a cup, the machine serves up a beer and continues on its merry way.

Check out the video on Engadget.

I want one!!!... Though this would make doing keg stands rather difficult if the keg is constantly moving, hehehe

Why does this thing not look like R2-D2? They need to fix that!

Bought some of that keg beer Heineken stuff ... and it is a good drop.

Bit too much to drink on my own ... goes flat before 4 checkpoints on Crysis.

Not recommended for a good gaming session if you want to win.

Too much of this can cause minor mouse collisions resulting in hand injury.

Also the keg is too hard to lift while gaming.

The hats with the can inserts and sython are far more effective for a mobile rig while seriously gaming ... avoiding dehydration during gaming is an important precaution.

More thought needs to be put into beer consumption during gaming.

I saw the video and it looks like the kegbot may have been drinking or drunk from the keg already; it could have the programmers though.

It would feel weird to get served by a moving piece of machinery.

Thats a small keg..... I was thinking something R2D2 sized with a kegerator built in...

I shall now be forced to respond with my own beer serving robot!!!

It will crush lesser beer serving robots under its cold steel treads.

This is a really bad idea. First it will be just for the home. But what if it goes even further. What if it were to be used at Hooters or something. Think about what it would replace... Now do we really want that to happen. I say no... Def.. not the kinda cans I want to look at.

Funny. Some engineering nerds made a robot just like this while I was in college, right down to the mini Heiny keg. At the time I jokingly told them to file a patent.

Whodathunkit....
