Who Wants to Manually Update for Android 2.2?

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

It's a good day for Nexus One users.

If you're rocking an Android phone, you're probably disgustingly excited about Froyo/Android 2.2. If you can't wait to get your hands on it and have a Nexus One, you're in luck; there's a download link floating around the web promising to deliver you a nice big, cold dish of Froyo.

This download link will give you Froyo directly from Google's servers but it will only work if you're using a non-rooted stock ERE27 system.

XDA-Developers poster rheza02 says:

"If you are on a completely stock ERD79 device (including stock recovery image), you can use the official ERE27 update (this is the same as the OTA update). Just download it, put it on the SD card named update.zip, launch recovery (power on with volume down held), press power and volume up when the warning triangle icon appears then select 'apply update.zip'. Sorted."

I'm off to get myself some Froyo; anyone care to join me?

[UPDATE] Google has removed the download link but here's another, less official one for those of you daring enough to give it a shot.

Been on it since Saturday and I must say I am loving it! Flash is a little choppy but only because its in beta and not running any hardware acceleration. When flash is out of beta in June I am sure everything will be good. besides HULU runs perfectly fine for me and thats all I care for =D

In regards to the 3g/edge drop call issue you should contact Googles Nexus One support. They will have you do a data reset of the phone. Once done observe the phone to see if it drops again when switching between 2g/3g. If so call N1 support again and they will give you a ticket number and the number to HTC Nexus One Total care. Call them explain that you spoke to Google and di a factory reset and that the issue still occurs and they will send you a new phone (mind you you mail back your defective one). I have done this and my new N1 hasnt dropped a call since even when switching between 2g/3g.

For those who want to update go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sh [...] p?t=686593

If you are updated to android 2.1 update 1 then goto step 25 and follow instructions from there. You will be updated to froyo in about 5 minutes or less. Enjoy and you are welcome =D

It's too bad civility is a dying virtue on the web.

I've seen remarks on articles that the reader didn't look over carefully, but I've always responded in a kind manner. I guess it takes one person at the time to stem back the tide of bleakness that anonymity brings.

I have a Sony X10 and I won't get 2.1 until October. That is assuming Sony bother at all. Don't buy one...

Cyanogen has released an updated which contains 2.2 and root, if anyone is interested. Doesn't contain a full ROM or anything like that, but great if you still want to be able to use those rooted only apps.
