CNN Acquires CNN Twitter Account
Source: Tom's Guide US | Keywords: CNN, Twitter, @cnnbrk | Themes: The Internet, Business
With all the hubbub surrounding actor Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk) and news outlet CNN racing to one million followers on Twitter, most people don’t know that CNN doesn’t even own @cnnbrk, the Twitter account that tweets headlines and breaking news. At least it didn’t until this week.
@cnnbrk is a profile set up by one James Cox and is the most followed Twitter account in the world. It’s commonly believed that James Cox never had anything to do with CNN and vice versa, however according to Silicon Alley Insider, while CNN yesterday confirmed that it has taken control of the @cnnbrk account (garnering 944,000 followers in the process), the company has been working with Cox for the last two years.
CNN didn't disclose any financial details but we can only assume it was more of a contractor thing and is now more an in-house CNN thing. Since yesterday, several CNN reporters have been added to the accounts @cnnbrk is following (which previously listed just Cox) and while not a huge fan of Twitter, I think is great news. @cnnbrk has always been up to date and the addition of CNN reporters is only going to make things better.
Do any of you find Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and all these social things useful?

I get the same thing out of an RSS feed, with less bulk.
TBH Not really
What's Twitter?
My wife does. I would rather hang out here on Tom's.
Twitter is one place I don't plan on venturing to. I'm with the "what's twitter" crowd.
I think Facebook is awesome, I havn't tried Twitter yet, but I might. I think it prevents misrepresentation accusations from occuring for CNN to actually own their Twitter account.
WTF is twitter?
WTF is not-hiding-under-a-rock?
I use facebook simply as an easy way of staying in touch with people when they move, change phone number, email address etc.
I tried myspazz and didn't really see the point, and haven't looked at twitter once because again I don't see the point; if I want news, I'll look at a news site, if I want pointless "I'm doing this" crap from my friends I'll check facebook, I have no interest in what a complete stranger is doing
Is Twitter a new news source? I have Tom's and Anand for computer, dpreview for cameras, GSMArena for cellphone, NYTimes for English news so what's Twitter?
For those of your who don't know what twitter is, take a look at this:

I can see it being useful only in certain cases, and only if it doesn't get to detailed. "Working on Anderson Document" or "Researching issue with new configuration file" would be useful in business situations.
Who cares?
Too bad all the main stream news outlets are biased, that's CNN,Fox, etc.
twitter sucks.....
Twitter, myspace, facebook, waste of time.
I use Facebook just for organizing events with friends, who are otherwise not easily accessible.
But I just don't get Twitter at all.
"woke up at 9:30 today, eating eggs".
OH REALLY? I don't really give a fuck.
Uh, so instead of subscribing to the CNN RSS feed (or, god forbid, going directly to cnn.com), you wait for someone to update the Twitter account instead? Talk about pointless.

Twitter is the bane of the internet. Twitter is worse than 4chan, IMO. At least with 4chan you get comedic memes and It's understood to be damaging. With Twitter, you get serious-minded people who want you to know they just farted in public. Seriously? How did the world get so Candid? What ever happened to "TMI?" This popularity-mindedness is inane and insane.
Twitter = fad
nuff said.

There are a product for that already... They are called JIRA and Confluence. Both of which are great for work flow (100x better than Twitter). Twitter is just a fad.
Twitter is fucking lame. It provides no real value. I can't think of a single valid use for it. Its basically a history of Facebook status updates.

I really hope that is a rick roll, or at least "I'm on a boat" or something else good.
Geez. A lot of people here really seem to hate twitter.
Sure, twitter can be obnoxious if someone feels like being retarded and updates, but I find its really helpful to get messages out quickly to a bunch of friends (meeting times, places, etc).
Also good for getting quick headlines too.
Facebook is nice to keep in touch with old friends who I don't see that much. That's about it. Anyone who I talk to regularly, I don't really communicate with a lot on facebook. There's no need if I see them in person.
Twitter is old news, very stupid technology if you ask me. Mainstream now has "Twitter" and it's only a matter of time til its death. Once the mainstream fad hits a technology only has a short amount of time left. I think the comments hare are more telling than anything. When the early adopters say a technology is stupid that's the nail in the coffin.
