Just as analysts predicted, Apple is having a Black Friday sale to drag in the customers who would otherwise consider a Mac too pricey during these tough financial times.
A few weeks back Barclay Capital Analyst, Ben Reitzes said that, while Apple had yet to make any announcements about sales, the trendy computer maker will be slashing prices for that one day when the whole country goes nuts for shopping. Anyone who’s bought anything Apple knows that a sale is pretty much unheard of. You pay the same price, pretty much all year round, and unless the company is upgrading it’s product line, a drop in price is unlikely.
Yesterday, it emerged that Best Buy would be cutting the prices of selected Apple products, including a $100 save on the base model MacBook for a period of four days. Nice and all, but more than likely Best Buy has a whole pile of MacBooks in stock and the best way to shift them is to offer customers a money-saving deal.
However, while the Best Buy sale is sort of ho-hum news, reports doing the rounds say that Apple will be matching the prices of retailers, meaning you’ll get the same price at Apple stores that you would at Best Buy if you shove a flier under the nose of an Apple sales assistant.
There’s yet to be an official announcement about this from Apple, then again, the company also hasn’t denied it. The Apple website currently displays a pretty green and red advert pumping customers up for savings on November 28. Capital Analyst Ben Reitzes says we can expect the company to be more aggressive than usual in its one-day sale. Reitzes estimates $100 off a few Mac models and discounts on several iPods, which is similar to what Best Buy is offering now so it’s really anyone’s guess whether you should wait for Black Friday or seize the day and head down to Best Buy for your $150 off.

Apple relies on the American obsession with 'elitism' to maintain their absurd pricing structure. Though, obviously, it works for them.
hmm, the aluminum macbook for 1000 would be a good sell.

I hope they don't eventually make one with anodized 7075-T6 alloy the way Colt does on M16 receiver. If that happens, I will get one no matter the price, then run Windows 7 on it.
Meh...
I run OSX on my E2180 @ 3.2Ghz with 5GB RAM and it cost me only $350 to build

Am I the only one not interested in paying $1000 more than the parts are worth, for a sub-par Operating System that isn't any better than one I can get for free.
Still worse peforming and higher priced then ASUS Notebooks.
Lol 100$ on a 1000$ Macbook it's only a 10% reduction. Wouldn'T even cover de taxes here and it's still pricer that a PC laptop with the same hardware.
OK, so it's kind of understandable sometimes why someone would want to get OSX over Vista or XP, these are usually people who want a sleek operating system that is extremely simple and straight forward to use.... but there are plenty of much better free Linux distros out there that are free, that you can install on any computer.
I'm MAC!!! I dont need a flipping 100 bucks off.
