iPhone 17 Pro Max video claims to show phone fresh off production line — here's what we can see

Apple's "Awe Dropping" iPhone 17 launch event is next week, at which point we should see and hear about everything the new phones have to offer. Though someone may have beaten Apple to the punch, since a video claiming to have come from someone on the iPhone production line may have given us a good look at the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The video was shared by Ice Universe over on Weibo, showing a very brief glimpse at what appears to be two iPhone 17 Pro Mac models. One in black and the other in silver. If this video is legitimate, that would be a very big breach in Apple security — since the company has always clamped down hard on potential leaks like this.

It's worth mentioning that some commenters on Weibo have declared this video to be an elaborate fake. This is absolutely possible, considering the number of iPhone 17 dummy units that have been circulating on the internet over the past few months.

But considering the iPhone 17 release date is expected to happen on September 19, in just over two weeks, production on these phones will be well underway by now. There could be legitimate units floating around like this, provided security at production facilities wasn't doing its job properly.

It's enough to make me wonder whether Apple's new push towards automated manufacturing is also designed to help plug potential leaks. Fewer people on the production line means fewer potential security holes — since robots can't record videos for social media.

The design is very much what we've come to expect from the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, though it does seemingly confirm there will be more of a two-tone design on the back. Assuming this is all legitimate, then it looks like the camera bump and frame will have a metallic finish, while the backplate below will stick with glass.

Though we won't know for sure until next week, when Apple announces the iPhone 17 lineup at the launch event. In the meantime, be sure to check our iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max hubs for all the latest news and rumors about the four phones.
