I loved my Dyson wet floor cleaner until I tried this cheaper, smarter alternative

If, like me, you have mainly hard floors in your home, you’ll know the perils of trying to keep them clean and debris-free daily. Which is why I can appreciate the convenience of wet and dry cleaners to cut cleaning time in half. Not only do they have the power of the best vacuum cleaners to quickly suck up debris while washing floors at the same time, but they also save you the back-breaking task of mopping.

Since I test vacuum cleaners for a living, I’ve spent countless hours testing wet and dry cleaners in my home. And while the Dyson WashG1 has always been my standout pick for performance and spotless results, this cheaper alternative impressed me more.

The Tineco Floor ONE S5 may be a lesser-known floor cleaner, but it quickly became my new favorite. Unlike the WashG1, it comes with a variety of smart and advanced features to tackle the job. And surprisingly, it’s also more affordable than Dyson’s premium price tag.

The Tineco Floor One S5 is ergonomic, slim, and doesn’t have the bulkiness of traditional washer vacuums. In our Tineco Floor One S5 review, we stated that the Editor's Choice vacuum is a powerful, cordless cleaner that can easily vacuum and mop hard floors. For those with mainly hardwood and tiles in their homes, this is an excellent budget-friendly choice.

1. It has a smart 'iLoop' sensor

Nowadays, many high-spec gadgets and appliances come with smart sensors to auto-adjust to your task at hand. One thing I liked about the Tineco is its ‘iLoop’ smart sensor. This instantly adjusts water flow, suction, and brush roller speed, depending on how dirty your floors are.

The illuminated ring around the LED display is a pretty cool feature too — changing from red when debris is detected to blue once the area is clean. This visual touch, along with the battery life conveniently displayed in the center, helps you monitor the cleaning process and remaining power. Ultimately, I was impressed with the spotless results.

Given the high price point of the Dyson Wash G1, however, it doesn’t come with such advanced features. And you’ll need to manually adjust the water hydration levels via a button on the handle, which can often be bothersome if you’re in a hurry.

2. It’s lightweight and self-propelled

Another favorite feature is its self-propelled design, which makes it easier to push along my floors. After using the Tineco Floor One S5 around my home, I can certainly see the benefits and convenience of this feature.

This is especially true after you have just filled a full tank of clean water. Plus, I liked how easy it is to glide over my hardwood and tiled flooring with ease.

3. It has handy voice guidance

If you didn’t always want to look down at your control panel for guidance, you can enable the voice control instead. Designed to give you real-time updates, the voice prompts will literally assist you during cleaning tasks. I found this a useful feature, especially when alerting me to a blockage or problem.

Additionally, the voice guidance will instruct you when to fill or empty the dirty water tank, which is always helpful. Of course, if you find the voice prompts either too loud or too annoying, you have the option of turning them off — for a peaceful home.

Surprisingly, Dyson cleaners have never offered a voice control option, which would have probably been a bonus feature many would have expected, given the price.

Dyson WashG1

If you have mainly hard flooring or tiles, this Dyson WashG1 will wash your floors, and do all the hard work. It comes with a large water tank capacity, three power settings and a handy, self-cleaning function.

Of course, if you want to treat yourself to a splurge buy or are simply loyal to Dyson, then the WashG1 is certainly suited for the job. But if you’re looking to get more bang for your buck, then I'd say the Tineco Floor One S5 is an impressive alternative.
