Netflix top 10 movies — here’s the 3 worth watching right now
These trending Netflix movies are actually worth the hype

The weather has finally cooled off a bit, but the best streaming services are just heating up with plenty of must-watch new movies. Though with so many choices, narrowing down what to watch next can quickly turn into a headache.
Sure, you could always check out the Netflix top 10 to see what everyone's buzzing about, but there's bound to be some over-hyped snoozefests among the gems. That's why I regularly keep an eye on Netflix's ranking of the most-watched movies to highlight which ones actually deserve a spot on your watchlist. Because who wants to waste their precious streaming time with a dud?
This week, that includes a bubblegum pop animated adventure from the team behind the "Spider-Verse" films, a romantic drama that'll leave you swooning and a long-awaited comedy sequel that is better than the original (that's my hot take, at any rate).
None of these picks catch your eye? For even more streaming recommendations, be sure to check out our guide to everything new on Netflix this month. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the three must-watch movies in Netflix’s top 10.
This article is based on Netflix's top 10 movies list in the U.S. as of 1:00 p.m. ET on Monday, August 4.
Best movies in the Netflix top 10
'K-Pop Demon Hunters' (2025)
The day I stop raving about "K-Pop Demon Hunters," check my pulse. I admittedly haven't listened to a lot of K-pop music (if it's not on the radio, I probably haven't heard of it), but I am a huge fan of Sony Pictures Animation, the Oscar-winning studio behind the "Spider-Verse" films and "The Mitchells vs. the Machines."
Their latest flick continues their winning streak, with a surprisingly endearing mix of stunning animation, sharp humor, and a simple yet engaging storyline with a powerful message. Just don't blame me if you can't get this movie's songs out of your head.

"K-Pop Demon Hunters" follows chart-topping superstars Rumi (voiced by Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), the latest in a long line of demon hunters tasked with keeping the world safe with their music. The trio faces their biggest threat yet when a rival boy band who comes for their crown turns out to be a group of demons in disguise.
With everything they've worked for at stake, the idols gear up to kick evil spirits out of the mortal realm once and for all, but soon discover they'll have to confront their own inner demons first.

'My Oxford Year' (2025)
Fans of "The Life List" won't want to miss Netflix's latest romantic drama, "My Oxford Year," which is still flying high on the streamer's top 10 after debuting last week. Senior Streaming Writer Alix Blackburn called this movie "pure comfort wrapped in charm," and it's shaping up to be one of this summer's must-watch hits.
Adapted from Julia Whelan’s novel of the same name, it follows Anna De La Vega (Sofia Carson), an ambitious American student who earns the opportunity of a lifetime: a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford.
Not long into her year abroad, her well-laid plans are thrown off course when she meets her charming and quick-witted tutor, Jamie Davenport (Corey Mylchreest). Soon, sparks are flying, and Anna begins to reconsider everything about the future she's mapped out for herself. With the clock counting down to when she has to return to New York, their budding romance is put to the test, and things begin to unravel.

'Happy Gilmore 2' (2025)
I may be one of the few people on the planet who prefers "Happy Gilmore 2" over the original. Then again, I only watched Adam Sandler's classic comedy for the first time last month, so I realize I majorly missed the boat on that one.
Still, it should tell you something that I thoroughly enjoyed this long-awaited sequel even without nostalgia goggles on. Rarely do I get to the end of a movie and think, "This would be fun to watch with my in-laws." (By the way, here's a cheat sheet to all the "Happy Gilmore 2" cameos if you're curious).
In "Happy Gilmore 2," Sandler's back as everyone's favorite ill-tempered pro golfer, now a washed-up father of five struggling to pay for his daughter's (Sunny Sandler) ballet school. To scrounge up the cash, he comes out of retirement — but this time it isn't Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) standing in his way, but rather an upstart new league called Maxi Golf (whose CEO is played by longtime-Sandler collaborator Benny Safdie).
I was impressed by how successfully the sequel took Sandler's schtick of goofy cameos, slapstick, and messy but earnest characters and tailored it to younger audiences without feeling condescending or out of touch. Reggaeton superstar Bad Bunny especially stole the show as Happy's caddy Oscar with plenty of quotable lines to haunt a new generation.
