If you want to spice up your Netflix watchlist this week with some gripping thrillers, you've come to the right place. I've taken a deep dive into the streaming service's library additions this week and picked out the gems.

Unfortunately, the week ahead is lacking in brand-new thriller movies. However, some old favorites are resurfacing, and I even stumbled upon a heist thriller sequel that I didn't know existed until now. Plus, one of Denzel Washington's best movies has just returned to Netflix, and even though it turns 20 years old this year, it remains as watchable as ever.

These are the latest thriller movies added to Netflix, give them a stream if you're in the mood for films stuffed with tension, suspense and twists.

One of the five collaborations between director Spike Lee and actor Denzel Washington, “Inside Man” is a gripping crime thriller that centers on an audacious bank robbery. If the two uber-talents above weren’t enough, it also stars Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Christopher Plummer, Willem Dafoe and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Talk about star-studded. The fact that the movie itself, beyond its cast list, is remarkably twisty is just a huge bonus.

Washington plays Detective Keith Frazier, who must trade wits with a criminal mastermind, Dalton Russell (Owen), who believes he’s constructed the perfect heist. After entering a New York City bank, Dalton and his crew take hostages, and Frazier is called to negotiate terms. But when the bank’s owner deploys a fixer, Madeline White (Foster), to retrieve a valuable item from one of the building's deposit boxes, it becomes increasingly difficult to determine who is truly in control.

‘Inside Man: Most Wanted’ (2019)

Did you know “Inside Man” got a sequel? I’ll admit this 2019 follow-up to the excellent 2006 original highlighted above completely passed me by. Perhaps that was because it was released direct-to-video, and sadly, neither Spike Lee nor Denzel Washington returned. So, this is more of a thematic follow-up than a continuation of the narrative from its predecessor. Still, for a direct-to-video sequel, its audience reviews aren’t too shabby. If you need another dose of crime thrills after streaming the original, “Inside Man: Most Wanted” might suffice.

Starring Aml Ameen, Rhea Seehorn, Roxanne McKee and Urs Rechn, “Inside Man: Most Wanted” sees an NYPD hostage negotiator (Ameen) team up with an FBI agent (Akshay Kumar) to resolve a hostage situation after a group of robbers executes another perfectly planned heist at the Federal Reserve Bank. The lack of Lee’s direction and Washington’s on-screen presence likely hurts the sequel, but I’ll be checking it out.

‘The Hand that Rocks the Cradle’ (1992)

“The Hand that Rocks the Cradle” is a '90s classic. It was remade for Hulu last year, and while the reimagining was far from a disaster, you just can't beat the original. Perhaps that's because it lacked Rebecca De Mornay, who gives a thriller performance for the ages. Plus, this psychological chiller thrives on dramatic irony. As viewers, we’re given crucial information that our protagonists are completely oblivious to, which leads to some very unnerving moments.

The perfect life of Mrs. Mott (De Mornay) comes crashing down when her husband, a successful obstetrician, is accused of sexual misconduct and commits suicide to avoid facing the consequences. The stress of the situation causes Mrs. Mott to miscarry the couple’s first child. Blaming one of her husband’s accusers, Claire (Annabella Sciorra), she concocts a sinister plan to get revenge by posing as a nanny and wreaking havoc on Claire’s family from within.
