If your weekend plan includes kicking back on the couch in front of a new movie, Netflix often feels like the go-to choice streamer. Like all the best streaming services, it keeps things fresh with a steady stream of new releases, and this weekend is no exception.
If you're not planning to spend the weekend racing through "Stranger Things: Tales From '85" or "Running Point" season 2, there are some great movies on offer. I've already looked through everything that's new on Netflix this week and put together a list of top new movies that I think you should have on your radar.
This week, you can look forward to a cat-and-mouse survival thriller starring Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton, plus a feature-length watch that's for country music fans and a new instalment in Netflix's "Untold" sports doc series. Here are the three new to Netflix movies to stream this weekend.

'Apex' (2026)
If you're looking to liven up your weekend with some action, you'll want to stream "Apex," an all-new survival thriller from director Baltasar Kormákur ("Beast," "Everest"). It stars Charlize Theron as Sasha, a grieving woman who finds herself pushed to her limits in the unforgiving Australian wilderness.
How? Well, Sasha finds herself ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse after crossing paths with Ben (played by "Carry-On" star, Taron Egerton), a skilled hunter and twisted, ruthless serial killer who's hot on her trail. It's Netflix's big new original movie release this week, and it's bound to be a popular addition to the platform.

'Lainey Wilson: Keepin' Country Cool' (2026)
"Keepin' Country Cool" follows singer-songwriter (and "Yellowstone" star) Lainey Wilson as she redefines what it means to be a modern country star who's been fighting her way to the top for 14 years.

The new movie captures a pivotal moment in her career, looking at her journey from a humble childhood in Baskin, Louisiana, through to her Best Country Album Grammy win (for "Bell Bottom Country") and sold-out arena tour, documenting her ups and downs, triumphs and struggles as she captivates her fans.

'Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill' (2026)
Across the years, "Untold" has tackled all manner of sporting stories, and the final film in this latest installment is a true-crime doc exploring a 2019 feud between a trainer and their student.
"Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill" revolves around ex-Olympic equestrian Michael Barisone and his dressage student, Lauren Kanarek. Barisone took Kanarek on as his New Jersey farm, but tensions mounted between them, leading to 911 calls, cryptic social media posts and accusations of spying. It all culminated in a shocking act of violence and a trial that, as Netflix puts it, "rocked the prestigious and sophisticated world of Olympic horseback riding."

If it’s in the theaters or available to stream somewhere, he’s probably watched it… especially if it has a dragon in it. Before joining the team, he was a Staff Writer at What To Watch where he wrote about a broad range of shows that stretched from "Doctor Who" and "The Witcher" to "Bridgerton" and "Love Island". When he’s not watching the next must-see movie or show, he’s probably still in front of a screen playing massive RPGs, reading, spending a fortune on TCGs, or watching the NFL.
