14. Sysmark 2002: System Performance

The application benchmark Sysmark2002 tells you something about the overall performance of the system.

When mains were powered (AC) with different power schemes, the performance results varied only marginally. All in all, though, they are much lower than those of notebooks with state-of-the-art RAM technology and modern graphics solutions. However, the results are more than adequate for most applications done with a Tablet PC.

The lackluster performance of the "Max Battery" setting is no surprise if you take a look at the relationship between the Windows XP power schemes and the resultant CPU clock speeds.

Windows XP Power Schemes AC Power (Frequency Example ULV-mobile Pentium-III-M 800 MHz) Battery DC (Frequency Example ULV-mobile Pentium-III-M 800 MHz)
Home/Office Desktop None (800 MHz Always) Adaptive (400 <->800 MHz)
Portable /Laptop Adaptive (400 <->800 MHz) Adaptive (400 <->800 MHz)
Presentation Adaptive (400 <->800 MHz) Degrade (400 MHz)
Always On None (800 MHz Always) None (800 MHz Always)
Minimal Power Management Adaptive (400 <->800 MHz) Adaptive (400 <->800 MHz)
Maximum Battery Adaptive (400 <->800 MHz) Degrade (400 MHz)

This clearly shows that a battery-powered mobile Pentium III in "Max Battery" mode only runs at 400 MHz, which is its "half-power" setting.
