9. Jimi iPod Nano Case: Nearly Bullet-Proof & Environmentally Friendly

Reviewer: Barry Gerber

Is your dad one of the millions of Apple iPod Nano users whose naked gear is getting royally ruined as it tumbles daily through a hard and scratchy world? Is he also concerned about the environment? Well, step right up. Have we got a Nano protective case for you!

The Jimi iPod Nano case from Mr. Smith Inc. is made of translucent polycarbonate. The company notes that polycarbonate is a "first cousin to bullet-proof glass." We didn't take any potshots at the case, but it is tough and didn't break in spite of several intentional and accidental drops without a Nano inside. The Jimi provides excellent protection from scratches and dings. For added security you can attach the Jimi case to a belt, lanyard or armband.

When it's inside the case all of the iPod's controls are easy to access. The case comes in six different colors. Each case has a removable faceplate that can be placed into any of the differently colored cases for some interesting two-color combos. Faceplates are also available separately. Dad's Nano and the faceplates can be inserted with either end up. This makes it easy to see the screen no matter how the Nano is oriented, whether attached to a lanyard, a belt or an armband

If dad gets lost in the jungle or needs to pop in new contacts, a window in the back of the Jimi cases lets you use the polished back surface of the Nano as a signaling or vanity mirror. Speaking of jungles and our environment in general, the Jimi iPod Nano case is the only iPod case that's designed and manufactured in the USA and made from 100% recycled and recyclable materials. Mr. Smith Inc. invests one percent of its sales revenues in the environment.

Jimi cases sell for $19.95; different faceplates are available in sets of two for $9.95. Check them out at www.thejimi.com.
