2. Fujitsu P1510D: Fujitsu And Microsoft Make Tablet PC Work

Reviewer: Barry Gerber

Fujitsu's Lifebook P1510D ultra lightweight laptop with Microsoft Tablet PC in Tablet PC orientation. The stylus is 4.3" long; the laptop is 9.3" x 1.46" x 6.57".

When it comes to compact computing, it's hard to beat the Fujitsu Lifebook P1510D, running Microsoft Tablet PC software. Do make sure you order the version outfitted with Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC, not the one with Microsoft Windows XP Professional. This petite unit delivers a powerful punch whether you operate it as a standard Tablet PC as shown in the preceding photograph, or change the upper deck's configuration to run it as a more standard laptop with screen above and keyboard below, as shown in the following photo.

We gave the P1510D our Editor's Choice Award in October 2005 and again in January 2006. The subtitle for the second article "An Ultra Light That Works" sums up the cogent points about this little wonder. Thee P1510D excels both as a Tablet PC and as a conventional ultra light notebook and lends itself to improving personal productivity in lots of interesting ways.

At a mere 2.2 pounds this light and attractive unit also offers decent battery life of just over three hours. At less than 12 ounces, an extra battery won't weigh you down much more. At prices in the $1,200 to $1,400 range the P1510D is a perfect gift for a working dad, especially if he considers himself a road warrior.
