11. Targus Feren Backpack: Style And Utility Combined
Reviewer: Ed Tittel
Of course, anybody who's got mobile gear really needs a stylish way to carry it around. Targus has been in the mobile computer bag business for as long as the genre has existed. One of your authors got his first Targus bag in 1987 for what memory now says was an incredibly big, heavy, underpowered, and early Toshiba Satellite laptop computer.

The Feren backpack is not only brightly colored, it's also intelligently compartmentalized and laid out.
Dads on the go, especially those who commute via mass transit, will probably find much to like about this bag. Many of them might prefer the olive green version rather than the day-glo orange version shown in the photograph.
The pack features insulated pockets, one on the front for food, one on each side for beverages. It's also got an MP3 player pocket, a detachable cell phone holder, and slots for up to four CDs or DVDs. Of course, the bag can also handle laptops and notebooks up to 15.4 inches across.
Your computer fits in a special, padded, shock-absorbing sling designed to let it ride in cushioned comfort. Those who must face the elements while carrying the backpack and its contents will appreciate its durable, heavy-duty nylon fabric and water-resistant bottom.
At street prices ranging from $55 to $80, this is one present that won't force you to think about your savings account or interest rates before you acquire one for your dad.
