Worldwide silicon wafer area shipments grew over 6% during the second quarter of 2008 when compared to the first quarter of 2008 area shipments, according to the SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group (SMG) in its quarterly analysis of the silicon wafer industry. Total silicon wafer area shipments were 2303 million square inches in the second quarter, compared to 2163 million square inches shipped during the first quarter.
