Real Sonic Screwdriver Can Manipulate Objects
Hopefully the real-world version will do wood as well as metal.
Science has always marched on and left speculative fiction looking like an antiquated throwback, but we never thought this would happen. Apparently researchers in Bristol University in the UK are studying how to use ultrasonic waves to manipulate objects, like say, screws, at a distance.
If that doesn't sound science fiction-y to you, then you probably haven't been watching Doctor Who, the hit sci-fi show from across the pond. To be more specific, we're talking about the Doctor's favorite handheld Macgyvering gadget, the Sonic Screwdriver. You may not need to buy a replica anymore; a real-working model might be in the works someday.
