The Spinpoint M series runs at 5,400 RPM, which puts it respectably in the middle of the upper part of the pack. There are only two similar drives that the Samsung MP0804H could not outperform: Seagate's Momentus 5400.2 and the new Western Digital Scorpio.
Obviously, the Samsung drive was not designed for high I/O loads, as it delivers below-average performance in the file server, workstation, web server and database profiles of IOMeter, given its spindle speed. However, these metrics are usually not very important for notebook users. Looking at the application benchmarks SYSmark 2004 and Winbench 99 2.0, the MP0804H is definitely able to score good results, and these matter more for mobile offices.
