4. Some Photos From FujiFilm's FinePix F30

Night Shots

I could go on for hours about this camera. However, in the end, it's the images a camera produces that tell the tale. So, here's a gallery of images that show the real strengths of the camera. If you don't see what I describe below, it's likely that your monitor isn't properly calibrated. Finally, before I start, note that all the photos below that have not been manipulated in Photoshop CS2 print beautifully on my Epson PictureMate 240 4x6 printer, which automatically corrects images very nicely before printing them.

The photo below was taken on Halloween. The second photo was modified slightly in Photoshop CS2. First, notice the colors. Even without a bit of Photoshopping the flowers and pumpkins show deep colors. The F30's colors remind me of those produced by FujiFilm's Velvia slide film, which I used in my Nikon F5 35mm SLR long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away. The F30 actually has a color setting to imitate Velvia. It wasn't turned on here. Oh yea, check out the noise; not much for ISO 800 at night.

ISO 800, 1/60 of a second at f2.8, exposure control aperture priority, flash on, focal length 8mm (37mm equivalent), color space = sRGB, original 2848 x 2136 pixels, this photo 425 x 319 pixels

Same photo modified in Photoshop CS2: Levels and Smart Sharpen

Here's another Halloween photo, taken at the same settings and modestly Photoshopped as the first one. Again, look at the color, sharpness and low noise. Remember, we're talking wide open at f2.8.
