iRiver's Wave Internet Phone Coming Soon
iRiver's new Internet phone, named the Wave, will be coming to the United States in Q2 2009 for under $200.
The iRiver Wave is a multimedia device that features WiFi and VoIP capabilities, allowing the device to function like a regular phone when connected to the Internet. During a hands-on review, we were able to place an out-going call to our cell phone without any issue. The VoIP service is provided by iRiver for free, so a fee-based VoIP service, such as Skype, is not required.
Other than VoIP, the Wave also features SMS support, an instant messenger, a FM Radio, an audio player, a video player, a photo viewer, an E-dictionary and a flash game. The device is equipped with a 3.0-inch TFT LCD display and 4 GB of storage capacity. Battery life is rated at 8-hours while VoIPing, 29-hours while listening to music and 5-hours while watching videos. The iRiver Wave is currently available in Korea, for under $200 USD.
