5. Mobile Web: Search And Subscribe

You can reformat Web pages for mobile viewing through sites like Skweezer and Phonifier, or by searching through the mobile versions of Google and Ask. All the main search engines have mobile-friendly interfaces: you can query Windows Live Search and Google by text message too.

Yahoo! Go is less about searching, and more about getting the details you're looking for without having to scroll through Web pages.

If your priority is information rather than browsing a specific site, try the Yahoo! Go 2 client (for Windows Mobile, Symbian and BlackBerry). It gives you news, weather, photos, business addresses and phone numbers, maps, stock quotes, movie times and other useful information retrieved from sites, without you having to visit them. The Google Maps mobile client also runs on all three smartphone platforms, and gives you maps and directions for businesses and addresses.

Microsoft's Windows Live Search Mobile software gives you business search, maps - including satellite views, directions and color-coded traffic information - on Windows Mobile and some Symbian phones. A BlackBerry version is in development.

Search for a local business or get directions with Windows Live Search.

Traffic coloring in Windows Live Search lets you decide which route to take.
