Google Continues the Gift of Free Phone Calls
Gmail is more than just for email.
Some of the best things in life are free, and Google today promised to continue giving out one such free thing -- phone calls in USA and Canada -- through 2011.
Google originally launched a “Call phone” feature in Gmail back in August. The “Call phone” feature resided in the chat contacts list off the side of the mailbox and clicking it would bring up a dial pad that allowed those to make free calls to anyone with that +1 country code.
Those who have a Google Voice account can also make international calls using their credit, and all outgoing calls will show the user’s Google Voice numbers.
Now there’s no reason not to stay in touch with those out of your local calling area, as calls are free for at least another year.

...which to me is a pretty big difference lol.
I'm from Canada and I just attempted to check out Google Voice, it says:
"Google Voice is not available in your country. Thanks for visiting Google Voice. We're not yet open for users outside the US, but are planning to expand our service to additional countries in the future. "
So is this article missing a particular detail I was not aware of? Or is it falsely informing its readers?

Yeah, you clearly missed the point of the article. There are a good amount of voip services. The point of this is you can call landlines for free. Skype you don't get that.

Google Voice is not available in Canada, but calling phones from Gmail is available...I'm in Canada and it works like a charm.
