8. Pulselink Shows Wireless HDMI Products

The first Wireless HDMI Products, which enable HD TVs and displays to run without video cables was shown at CES

For users of HD televisions, a mess of cables connecting HD-DVD players, Blu-Ray players, satellite and cable boxes, game consoles and other video devices to their HD sets can be a major annoyance. Products using a new chipset from Pulselink Inc, called CWave, can eliminate the annoyance at the HD television. The CWave chipset enables manufacturers to build wireless transmitters and wireless receivers designed to eliminate the cable clutter, and to allow one set of source devices to provide HDMI signals to multiple HDTVs.

The chipset consists of two components - one for transmitting the HDMI signal to the set, and a second that can be built into the HDTV receivers or a set top box that provides the HDMI signal to an HDTV. The transmitter component also provides IEEE 1394 capabilities and Ethernet connectivity. A user would be able to connect to the internet, and display the video wirelessly to one or more receivers supporting CWave.

Westinghouse Digital Electronics demonstrated what Pulselink called “the world’s first fully integrated wireless HDTV” at an event held before CES. A high definition video signal, using a transmitter provided by Pulselink was displayed by the Westinghouse Digital Wireless HDMI HDTV.

Multiple sources and multiple receivers can be supported by devices using CWave, Dan Friedman, Vice President of Marketing at Pulselink said. No pricing or target ship date were available.
