5. Wi-Fi Internet Radio Cube Design from Cambridge Consultants
It’s been said that there are more than 10,000 Internet radio stations worldwide. A new concept design is a radical departure from traditional radio designs.
The Iona Cube Radio is a cube shaped design with Wi-Fi integrated into it. The user connects to the Internet over Wi-Fi to receive the desired stations. Lacking knobs, a unique interface enables the user to play the radio.
Four sides of the cube are used for storing the address of a selected Internet radio station. One face of the cube holds the speaker, and the sixth face is for on and off. To change stations, the cube is placed on the side with the address for the desired station. There is no volume control knob on the Cube - instead, to adjust volume, the user rotates the cube clockwise or counterclockwise.
The Iona Cube Radio is a concept design. It is not yet a product. Cambridge Consultants claims to have designed this radio to be inexpensive to produce. The consultants did not disclose whether the design has been licensed to any manufacturers.
