Walmart Cuts iPhone 3GS Price to $97
Walmart has cut the price of the iPhone 3Gs and is now selling the smartphone for just $97.
Walmart has confirmed that, starting today, shoppers at the superstore will get more than $100 off of the 16GB iPhone 3GS. The price of the device has dropped to just $97 on a two year contract with AT&T.
"It is our commitment to always lead on price," Mehrdad Akbar, Wal-Mart's senior category director for wireless said, according to CNN.
It is widely believed that Apple has given the green light for retailers to go ahead and clear their inventories to make way for the highly anticipated iPhone 4G.

i smell iPhone 4G
Wonder if they will drop the price here in Canada???
new strategy mate ~ drop on the phone but increase on your monthly bill ~ nice try AT&T ~
Still overpriced.
$97 is still to high, I rather buy $97 worth of toilet paper than this trinket.
The show's over. Apple better lay another golden egg. They missed their golden opportunity to open the iPhone OS up and trump Android. They will be a footnote 10yrs from now, just like when we speak of the PC/MAC and how windows/microsoft took over the world.

LOL.. yea.. I am not so sure THAT is gonna happen.
Wow that's actually a good deal
i smell iPhone 4G
So what exactly does that smell like?
Anyway, I think that Apple will continue to do what they have been doing for decades: Innovate on occasion, lock down their IP, and continue to operate within a niche market. Where as others will borrow from their ideas and openly license their products and dominate a majority of the market. Rinse and repeat...
haha...hear in Australia they're still like $800aud upfront, or $0 upfront, with a lock-in 24month contract, at like $70 per month
remember they've upped the Early termination fee its about AT&T it doesnt matter if they were free and available for all carriers im still Android
cool i can get an iphone for cheap but still have to pay up the @$$ every month just to use it.
$97 for that phone is too high!? What are you people smoking?
maintenance & repair bills on this phone will catch up after the warranty
Damn! I just bought an 8GB iPhone 3g for $97 at WalMart on April 29th. What really sucks is that WM's Return Policy on iPhones is 15 days and not the standard 30 days like from an AT&T Store

Then go ahead buy it... janitors don't deserve iPhones anyways..
How about all contract phones be free, and we only have to pay if we don't want a contract? And not a anal raping price too...
$800 for a phone is ridiculous, or compared to $50-100/month contracts.
So what exactly does that smell like?
Smells like dirty apples.
I wouldn't even mind paying 97 bucks for this phone, just don't require me to pay for the 30.00 a month smart phone service. That phone is perfectly functional without all that BS. Do you hear me AT&T?

Makes sense. We should lease phones, then when the contract is over, we can renew with a new phone, buy the phone and go somewhere else, or whatever. I mean $97, thats not even $5/month over the 2-year contract, so what would they be losing out on anyway?
I am avoiding toms for 2 weeks starting June 7th
nice, this just confirms a summer release for the new iphone (that and all the other shenanigans) also to all you iPhone haters shutup some of us are stuck on AT&T plans and this is our only semi - decent option. I'm in college and stuck on an AT&T family plan. I really want an HTC phone but this is what I'm left with till I graduate.

If you use an iPhone don't make excuses for your choice unless you really thing you made the wrong one. I use an iPhone and it was the right choice at the time. Today I'd be looking at an Android capable phone, but at the time my options were between Apple's or Microsoft mobile OS.
Times change, technology and options change. I still made the right choice given my options (or personal knowledge of options) at the time.
Got my iPhone for 1 Euro from T-mobile In Germany with a two year contract... Thats cheaper then Wal-Mart.

I think T-mobile got the better deal =p
LOL.. yea.. I am not so sure THAT is gonna happen.
I don't think it will happen to the extent that he claims it will, but for sure they are hurting themselves. Android will quickly take over the market.
Iphone 4G summary: Hyped because its another overpriced piece of hardware with an apple logo slapped onto it with "new" features that were the standard for a very long time in the smartphone industry with a squad of apple fanboys trying to justify the price.
Walmart's iphone is the Chinese clone!!
