iPad May Hit Wal-Mart By End of Year
Soon you can purchase the iPad in the same store you buy underwear, Athlete's Foot powder, and gummi worms.
At one time Wal-Mart carried a plethora of computer-related products for both the general consumer and hobbyist, offering a great selection of hard drives, DVD burners, high-end graphics cards, and more. PC games were also in abundance. However, both the hardware and software aspects of its Electronics/Computers section has dwindled down to generalized products over time.
That may now change.
In a recent announcement, Wal-Mart said that it plans to beef up its electronics section again to better compete with Best Buy and other electronics specialty outlets. This will include more Blu-ray disc players, Internet-connected flat-panel HDTVs, routers, and more. Part of that plan is to bring Apple's iPad under its roof. As it stands now, the only local retail shops carrying the hot new tablet is Best Buy and official Apple Stores.
Gary Severson, senior vice president of entertainment for Wal-Mart’s U.S. stores said that the company anticipates being able to offer the tablet later this year. What he didn't specify was the actual pricing and timing of the product.
When asked about Wal-Mart's share of the iPad glory, Apple's Steve Dowling said that the Cupertino, California-based company hasn't made any official announcements regarding retail partners since the iPad's initial launch back in April. Apparently he didn't feel like talking about the negotiations.
It's highly likely that--if a deal were to take place between Apple and Wal-Mart--the iPad would appear on store shelves by early fall, probably just before prime-time shopping: Black Friday.

That's actually not a bad idea. At least with Wal-Mart I could try it for 14 days then return it if I hate it; rather than paying a 15% restocking fee.
This summer? It has been on sale at walmart for the past month
Just been sold out but there is dedicated section at the electronic dept. Not at walmart.com
The price will be the exact same of course and the time will probably be the day after Thanksgiving( Black Friday) Walmart will probably offer a free carry case or something to make you feel like your getting a better deal.
Apple is smart but the people buying them is not.
I would like to see these on display and demonstrated for public use at a Wal-Mart.
I could imagine someone purposefully greasing up their fingers from eating chips or wings then touching the iPad's touchscreen. Youtube material right there.
Stop with all these silly iPad "news" already.
Now women can buy their pads and ipads at the same store. Shouldn't be that bad of a business plan for wal-mart. Still not getting one.
Wal-Mart and electronics don't mix. People there are clueless.
I think I saw a guy today with an ipad in our local Mc Donalds trying out the device!
He had the box with him too, makes me believe it was brand new!

Apple trying to boost revenue by going mainstream?
Just been sold out but there is dedicated section at the electronic dept. Not at walmart.com
No it has not been on sale at Walmart. Nowhere but BestBuy and Apple stores. iPhones and iPods yes, but not iPads. Perhaps you were mistaken.
I agree with those restocking fee's. I did not buy a iPad at Best Buy for just that restocking fee. I had concerns over the WIFI which was even weak using the store demo. I think Best Buy is ripping people off big time.
Get ready for a whole new breed of Mactard.
I am just waiting for 2022 when every computer sold around the globe will be "touch-something-enabled" and then (hope not) if apple still exists, they will introduce.... you guessed it: "keyboard and a magical pointing device" in both white and amazing black!
Whoohoo... cannot wait.!
