Samsung Galaxy S III Arrives at Verizon Next Week

By - Source: Verizon Press Release

Get Samsung's awesome new Android phone on the Big Red Network starting next week.

Verizon Wireless announced on Tuesday that the 4G LTE-powered Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone will be available in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online at www.verizonwireless.com/galaxys3 starting July 10. It will be served up in two colors -- Marble White or Pebble Blue -- and in 16 GB and 32 GB models for $199.99 and $249.99 respectively (with a new two-year customer agreement).

"Customers can take advantage of 4G LTE-optimized apps like Color to share live video broadcasts of life’s special moments with their Facebook friends," Verizon said. "Sharing live video with audio is an exclusive feature of the Color app on Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network.  Customers can broadcast real-time footage of a newborn’s first step with family members who are miles away or share a beautiful view of a vacation spot to make friends at home jealous."

According to the specs, the new smartphone will sport a 1.5 GHz dual-core SoC, 2 GB of RAM, a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED screen with a 1280 x 720 resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 2.0, a rear-facing 8MP camera, a front-facing 1.9MP camera, up to 64 GB of extra storage via a microSD card slot and NFC technology. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth, DNLA content sharing, and even Mobile Hotspot sharing for up to ten additional Wi-Fi devices.

"Combining America’s largest 4G LTE network with the Galaxy S III’s 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display creates the perfect duo to watch movies, television shows and other video content with apps like viewdini," Verizon said. "Viewdini brings the power of Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network to the screen by streamlining access to videos from a wide range of content providers, including cable operators, websites and other popular video sources.  The viewdini app can be downloaded from Verizon Apps and Google Play."

Other features include Share Slot for creating a temporary photo sharing network with a group of friends who are nearby, S Beam for sharing pictures, videos, documents and more by simply touching two Galaxy S III devices’ backs together, and S Voice which features natural language recognition. All of this will be powered by Google's Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" OS which will likely be upgraded to v4.1 "Jelly Bean" before the end of the year.

Verizon said the 16 GB model will be available in stores and online starting July 10 and the 32 GB model will be available online starting July 10 and will be in stores in the coming weeks. For more information about the phone, head here.

Not sure they can as they would have to photoshop the GS3 a lot to make it look anything like a iPhone 4S, especially considering the size difference.

I guess you don't know what the injunction is about..

Apple patented the slide to unlock/click graphic on screen to unlock - so they are suing on that as well as like 2-3 other patents. Yes Apple's a big dickwad over this.

As for me - WOOT! my Birthday is the 14th, so I know what I will be getting myself since my contract is also ending at that time ;)

Sprint has already released the GS3, and AT&T will have it available on the 6th. Also note that AT&T will be releasing a special red edition, though not on the 6th. I have my GS3 for sprint, and am loving it!!! :D

Android 4 doesn't use a slide to unlock, well not like the normal one. It has a button in the middle that you roll to what you want (unlock, Text, Phone, Camera etc).

Still I doubt the suit will go through. Patenting something that simple is pretty anti-competitive anyways. It would be like creating a patent for holding the phone up to your ear.

Samsung's unlock is slide to unlock... with touchwiz. But at least with older TouchWiz, it uses jig-saw icons to open for text or calls. But the 2.3 uses the standard round button to unlock the phone period.

Whatever... there IS no confusion for anyone to think that any Samsung is an iPhone.

I have a Samsung GS1 that is up for replacement/renewal... I'm never loved the phone... but it was the top-of-the line when it came out, it was $250 ($100 3~4 months after it was released).

The SGS3 has that glossy horrible plastic... so I don't want it. Looks like Samsung STILL has issues with GPS (which is still shit with their current and past phones). The HTC One X is the one I am going to go with (I think) - it feels great! They are ALL too damn big thou.

LTE is the standard now... T-Mobile's BS 4G commercials are just laughable.

My Samsung Transform's GPS works just fine, so would you mind elaborating on why it is "shit"?

Compared to several hundred more for phones in other situations, that's not bad at all.

kcorp2003Does anyone know if I can unlock this phone to work on simple mobile?

Nope. SIMple mobile is a GSM carrier with HSPA+ 4G. Verizon uses CDMA with LTE 4G. However, there are GSM versions of the GS3. Your best bet would be a T-Mobile version as T-Mobile also uses GSM and HSPA+, but you'd probably have to double check the compatible frequencies. The AT&T version would also work, but no 4G since AT&T also uses LTE and not HSPA+.
