Twitter Hacked By "Iranian Cyber Army"

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

Twitter was down yesterday following a reported hacking at the hands of Iranian attackers.

TechCrunch reports that, at around 10 p.m. last night, they received several tips that Twitter had been hacked and a picture posted on the homepage along with the following message:

Iranian Cyber Army

THIS SITE HAS BEEN HACKED BY IRANIAN CYBER ARMY

iRANiAN.CYBER.ARMY@GMAIL.COM

U.S.A. Think They Controlling And Managing Internet By Their Access, But THey Don’t, We Control And Manage Internet By Our Power, So Do Not Try To Stimulation Iranian Peoples To….

NOW WHICH COUNTRY IN EMBARGO LIST? IRAN? USA?
WE PUSH THEM IN EMBARGO LIST ;)
Take Care.

A Google search for Twitter.com displayed the following:

The message translates as, “In the name of God, As an Iranian this is a reaction to Twitter’s interference sly which was U.S. authorities ordered in the internal affairs of my country…”

It seems the attack was a DNS redirect. Twitter's Biz Stone released a statement explaining that Twitter's DNS records were temporarily compromised and Twitter.com was redirected for a while but API and platform applications were working. Stone promised more information once they had investigated more.

Not like everyone hasn't known about the vulnrabilities of DNS for like a decade or anything.

Too bad they didn't take Twitter down for good, but at least they could have tried to get the grammer right. Us stupid Americans have no idea what they are saying, and will thus ignore them ;)

That is pathetic. It wasn't Iranians that compromised DNS records. It was someone who pretends to be Iranian so as to spark rage, fear, etc in your minds.

DNS redirects don't take all that much talent. It's somthing they have sightly address if IPv6, but it is really up to the root DNS servers to be more careful on who they accept updates from. Some sort of secured transfer with cross validated certificates.

Not that I care a bit if twitter was down, but DNS redirects combined with a phishing site could steal a large amount of data.

Since when does the US control the internet? Since when can anyone control the internet? I bet you there's a good 10000 high-school nerds who could have done the same thing in my state alone. Being from a country means nothing on the internet.

1) my ancestors came from Sumeria where they had the wheel, bronze utensils, and a written language at the time the persians/meads where still humping mountain goats on their plains.

2) those ancestors where then taken away by aliens from earth and later brought back to the USA to help spread scientology!!!

3) don't make fun of oomba oomba, it was a chart topper back in 2500 BC!...although the dance remix in 2250 BC did suck...

Well you should well know that people in Iran resent the current regime that has given them a bad name. But by making comments like "ooh lets bomb the f*ckers" you only make yourself look bad..

To be honest I enjoy your expert opinion on computer related things, you have also helped me out in the past regarding an SLI problem I had, but I find your last post as insulting.

Is it just me, or does the "correct" translation still not make any goddamn sense?

Also, good on them for having a little talent, but shame on them for being morons and committing crimes.

Don’t you remember the bill to allow Obama the power to shut down the internet? Sounds like control to me.

I don't understand how social networking websites can be so negligent of security.

Myspace, Facebook and now twitter all three big social networking sites have now been hacked.

what's next now? Orkut and thus google? I seriously hope not!

Yes, the Iranians would NEVER resort to such tactics, would they?

Let me get this straight... the Iranian Army, or even a group of Iranian hackers, decided that they would strike Americans at their heart... where they're most vulnerable... their lifeline... TWITTER!

I really hope it WAS the Iranian government. That way I can sleep well at night knowing they hate us, but are too stupid to cause any real harm.

Generally speaking, which ever group actually did manage to perform the hack will try to point blame elsewhere to try to confuse the investigators as to who actually committed the crime.

As for complaining about other countries terror tactics and methods of warfare.....as an American, I want to point out that we as Americans did a very nice job of using terror against the British (remember the Boston Tea Party?) and using snipers up in trees (yes Virginia, we did it first, not the Koreans). Had Benedict Arnold not changed sides during the American Revolution, he was the inspiration for the Revolutionary Army to use the sniper tactic. Also, wasn't it American Revolutionist that dressed up as Native Americans to try to point the blame elsewhere?

Kryan :
seriously...i agree with those few who have doubted whether it was Iranians in the first place.however, the comments about being more advanced 2000 years ago do need some setting right:that area of the world may have been advanced THEN...but subsequently, the "ruler/king/better than you" status prevented further advancement. That is why the western world overtook the middle east (and asia, temporarily). But beating women and making them hide their faces, etc...that's cave man behaviour.

Excellent point, but you need to distinguish between a nation/its people and the religion forced on them. You know what the penalty for converting to another religion is in an islamic country?

what I want to say is the people and the government are different hence the recent election fraud in Iran and tens of people killed in protests
