Toshiba's 7-inch Tablet Now on Sale Starting at $379
Toshiba finally launched the 7-inch version of its Thrive tablet, starting at $379.99 USD for the 16 GB model.
As promised back in September, Toshiba has launched the 7-inch version of its Android 3.2-based Thrive tablet. It comes packed with Nvidia's dual-core 1 GHz Tegra 2 SoC, 1 GB of LPDDR2 RAM, a 7-inch AutoBrite multi-touch LED backlit widescreen display, a front-facing 2MP webcam, a rear-facing 5MP autofocus camera, a microSD card slot for expanding the device's storage capacity and a battery life promising up to six hours.
"This is a seven-inch tablet done right," said Carl Pinto, vice president of product development, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. "The Thrive 7-inch Tablet is the first seven-inch tablet in the U.S. market to offer a true HD display that when combined with the selection of ports, premium audio, and a better, more robust Android experience make it a great choice for on-the-go consumers looking for a no-compromise tablet."
Weighing only 0.88 pounds and measuring just under half an inch thin (0.47-inches), the new 7-inch Thrive sports a resolution of 1280x800, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, stereo speakers tuned with sound enhancement technologies from Toshiba and SRS Labs, a built-in gyroscope, a mini-USB 2.0 port and a micro-HDMI port for cranking out HD content on an HDTV.
The tablet also comes packed with third-party software including Kaspersky Tablet Security, Quickoffice, a batch of games and Google's suite of apps. Toshiba has also included its own File Manager so that customers can easily sling files across a USB connection to a computer, or on the tablet itself.
Toshiba's 7-inch Thrive is now available in two capacities: $379.99 for 16 GB and $429.99 for the 32 GB model.

Finally, a tablet where the increase in price from 16GB to 32GB is somewhat reasonable.
I wonder if this retains the rubberized, ribbed, removable back cover which allows user access to the internal batteries.
Is this suppose to be a good deal? Or just an advertisement?
Does anyone even care about a 7 inch tablet for $379? I'd want something a bit bigger for that price, or something less expensive for that size.
I got my Toshiba Thrive 10.1" 16GB for only $320
Lol. Saw this in store last week. I wanted it.
So basically its a playbook with android and a higher res screen, oh and it costs double

Playbook price was 499 for 16GB until they did their fire sale. What are you on?

Current market value?
It wasn't a fire-sale because
-its still available
-the sale was only for 2 weeks
I got mine for 189 which is exactly half of $379,
So if you want to pay double for something just because of the slightly higher resolution and android then go ahead
7" tablet 'done right', but priced wrong(ly high). 7" ipad 2 it is not.
9.7" toshiba thirve is up for 299$ sale.
I don't know where the BS in this article came from. Someone has to drink less.
I was excited about this reading the article until I saw all of your cost comments... now I'm hoping this comes down. I was going to get the Transformer prime, but in reality I would prefer a 7" over a 10+". Something easier to carry around. But really, a refurbished first gen transformer can be purchased at newegg for around $350, which is the same specs but larger. So really, this should be cheaper.
Too expensive for what it does. If it comes with Android, expect many to only pay up to $250.
