It's the World's Most Expensive Phone

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

Looking to dump big bucks into a new smartphone? Stuart Hughes may have the device you're seeking.

Stuart Hughes is back with another one of its crazily-priced gadgets, this time offering what it calls "the world's most expensive phone." This bank breaker is actually the Apple iPhone 3GS encased in 271 grams of 22ct solid gold. Seated around the gold casing's bezel are 136 "flawless" diamonds (color F whatever that means), equaling to a massive 68cts.

Not enough diamonds to dazzle your dots? Stuart Hughes has planted an additional 53 "flawless" diamonds into the rear Apple logo stamped into the gold casing, equaling to 1ct. On the front, the company mounted a single cut of a very rare diamond, equaling at 7.1cts. With all this glitter, diamond lovers should salivate in glitz heaven.

Stuart Hughes didn't stop with the device. Rather than dump its precious golden iPhone into any old box, the company devised a chest made from a single block of granite. There's also Kashmir gold thrown into the mix, and Nubuck top-grain leather lining its interior. Apparently, the casing alone weighs around 15 pounds.

Currently Stuart Hughes' golden iPhone 3GS costs a whopping £1.92 million... that's almost $3.2 million USD. That's a whole lot of crazy for an iPhone, and with the amount of gold and diamonds loaded onto the device, it's a wonder if anyone would actually dare take it out in public.

Quote :(color F whatever that means)

A quick google search would tell you that "color F" stands for Flawless color, or completely colorless....

I wonder if all that gold would cause the phone to not work? So much metal...

Just imagine if you dropped it the dent it would leave. Chip off a diamond and that would be costly!

Dont get me wrong, I understand... It's supposed to be a... how do you say... "work of art"... but it just not my style.

It may very well have been laziness on the part of the author to not look up what "color F" stands for, but I read it as a tongue-in-cheek dig at how ludicrously expensive this gadget is. The people who would buy this phone are the people who buy the recommended processors and video cards in the "Past the point of reason" sections. "More money than sense" comes to mind as well...

On the other hand, I wish I could afford this stuff! I don't think I'd mind having more money than sense for a change. :)

F is in the Colorless scale but D is the least amount of color. Flawless is in the Clarity category and I'm guessing if they didn't bother to go D they certainly didn't go for FL on the clarity. Maybe VS2 at the best as it takes magnification to see any flaws at that grade. Pretty weak at the price they are asking.

given the rarity of this, i wouldn't be surprised if it actually increases in value, despite its uselessness in the future...not to mention it is still gold and diamonds...those don't depreciate in value usually...I guess a positive spin on this is the most useful piece of jewelry you could buy...of course if you are in a 3g capable area and ATT hasn't gone out of business :P

Gold is SOFT the more pure it is , that thing is going to fall apart really easy , especially if its dropped.

Maybe if they didn't suck to begin with.

I don't care about contract prices. Off-contract prices are ridiculous though. $780 on rogers Pay as you go. I really DON'T think this is worth $180 more than every other smartphone out there that is selling for $600 CAD.... In fact, it's worth LESS with it's outdated HVGA display. 800x480 is the new standard. 854x480 is the bar-setter currently. I think that by Q4 2010 we will see 1024x576 phones. I bet Apple will still be using an old standard then.

OMG!! If I had a girlfriend, I would try and get the money to buy this for her.

Then she would have slapped you across the face with it and told you to buy her a ring dumbass. Well thats what my wife would do.

Anyone else have a violent wife/girlfriend?

Wow. Just wow. The stupidity of some people just amazes me.

Take a phone for people who follow trends, add shiny to it and bam. Shiny trendyness.

I am willing to bet we will see cheap imitations using that stick on plastic gem crap real soon so that everyone can live the trendy bling iPhone life.

iPhone: for those that can only follow.

It's funny how they put the UK money first on the US website, yet never do it on the UK one.

If i had loads of money i might just buy it - its not like people THAT rich ever go out in public. Also its an investment - gold and diamonds retain their cost as currency inflates and this phone also holds value as a unique rarity.

i don't know what you guys are smoking, but diamonds have almost no resale value, unless they're particularly rare and special diamonds. that 7.1ct diamond on the front might retain its value, and the gold can certainly be resold for its inherent value, but all of those little crap diamonds flanking the edge and on the back are completely worthless after you've paid for them. i doubt you could get more than 1mm selling the parts of this thing.

Yeah.. might as well stick that iphone to an expensive yacht, car, missile warhead, etc.. and you'll get another world's most expensive phone
