Red Dead Redemption Gets 30-min Show on Fox
This could be one fancy, long cinematic.
Red Dead Redemption is one of the very finest games of 2010, and now the game is getting on TV this weekend. This Saturday late evening – midnight, to be exact – on Fox, there will be a 30-minute machinima made with all the in-game assets from Red Dead Redemption.
This is Rockstar's description of it:
The 30 minute short film, created and directed by John Hillcoat (the director of The Proposition and The Road), chronicles a slice-in-time of protagonist John Marston as he tracks down his former fellow outlaw and friend, Bill Williamson. Along the way, Marston encounters many of Red Dead Redemption's eclectic cast of dreamers, misfits and liars.
Using the world of Red Dead Redemption as a virtual film studio and created entirely with in-game assets and technology, Hillcoat re-imagines Marston’s pursuit of justice and salvation.

That is so cool, i wish somebody had used CryEngine 2 for a televised movie like this as well
If you haven't played this game yet, you are missing out!
They should just elect a gamer to go around in game doing stuff, video tape that, and then broadcast it (perhaps a Google TV channel?). I hope it's me cause I'd just go around shooting animals and putting them on the train tracks.
The Bugs in the game alone make the game worth playing. got to love bird models and horse models sometimes bugging out and using humans.
If you haven't played this game yet then don't waste your time. You aren't missing anything. The graphics and voice acting are great. The cut-scenes aren't horrible but there are lots of them and it can get to be ridiculous. There is a lot to do but it all feels kind of meaningless. The tutorials on how to do stuff are very UNclear. Overall it feels like GTA4 in the old west but with a lot more riding around through nothingness.
Its is worth a rent but thats it.

This article has me looking into it, PC only and if it is FPS/RPG like Fallout 3 (no draconian DRM) it will be bought.

That's why you are supposed to do missions. Most of the extra stuff is there AFTER you complete the game. Become an outlaw etc, rob banks, trains, hunt, etc. I do some during, but single player to me is amazing. The missions are original and it feels like you really are out there in the Wild west. There are no limits to what you can do in this game.
I heard and seen the reviews, it's a very good game... but I can't see myself paying more than $20 on any game. I paid $20 for Bad Company 2 (on sale, digital download) so yes I buy stuff.
It really shows how poor rasterized gaming graphics are compared to real video or film. The lighting models are nowhere near mimicking real world lighting.
A better take would have been a "less is more" film look. A noon day shot in the sun is an exercise in sharp contrasts. A players face would be totally in shadow, not lit up like it was on a theater stage. It isn't the fact of WHAT you see, it is what you don't see. That is the realism.
In my opinion DX9 levels of model complexity are adequate, but lighting is the visual cues that make things look real or not.

Consoles... ewwww...
Ok, 30 min show on Fox, let's see a full game on PC.
Please?
what do you mean "let's see a full game on PC"?
1) what do you mean by full game
2) it's not on PC
it's on fox, so it'll get canceled as soon as it gets good...

That's the point. He wants the game on PC. And by 'full', he means not a terrible port.
for examples see Firefly (worst idea to cancel show ever), Dollhouse, The Tick, and Terminator Salvation. All of which have die hard following and all of which were canceled by the dumbest broadcasting company to ever be created. All they care about is their right wing useless agenda.
I think it could have made a decent movie. I would have watched it. I don't feel 30 minutes will be enough to get enough of the story out there, but that's just me.
lol you want it on PC for what reason? So you can download it for free? That's a good incentive for developers to do it. Pretty soon all that will be left on PC is 360 ports and monthly fee MMO games. I gave up on PC a long time ago (and yes i've played the PC MORE THAN YOU)

Watched the entire Firefly series for about the 10th time. One of the best shows ever. Makes me so mad! Oh well, at least its Friday.

Or how about so that I can play it at higher resolutions with superior controls.

I have $50 waiting for the game if Rockstar is nice enough to give us a PC version...

By that, you mean their right wing useless propaganda.
So, they are going to ruin the game before most people have even played it? A LOT less people are going to buy it if they see the whole story in 30 minutes.
Can't wait for another buggy rockstar port of a game that was good on the COnsole version, ported, and crapified.
And we get it like 6 months later.
Rember GTA IV?
Not only did you need a quad core to run it anwhere NEAR high settings, the game was also glithy as hel without a SSD/RAID 0 Mechs.

Not that I am a fan of Fox, but I do believe they still air Family Guy, which is probably the one of the most right wing hating shows on all of T.V., both regular cable and premium cable.
The Simpsons are pretty liberal.
The graphics quality is 100x better than any cartoon from the 70's. Who cares if the lighting is 100% accurate.
Either way it looks more like a 30 minute advertisement for the game than a real cartoon. Maybe Rockstar bought the time as infomercial?
what? fox didn't go on a 30 min rant about how bad this game is and the nun killing?
