Palm Pre Canada Ad: Questionable Stereotypes
Those whacky, active Canadians.
The Palm Pre has now hit its second country, moving north from Sprint in the U.S. to Bell Mobility up in Canada – both of which are CDMA carriers.
With any new product launch comes the appropriate marketing, but now we're wondering just how appropriate this latest commercial is. Sure, it takes jabs at various stereotypes, but it doesn't exactly make the Pre look at home with its supposed target market.

Lighten up, it's funny.
man that's one bulky phone
The ad was funny, but i agree. Who were they honestly targeting with that?
Two words; Bell Mobility. Why would anyone do that to themselves? Neat phone though.
What's Canadian about that? I didn't see any maple syrup or beavers or marijoowana!
lol, beavers.
Well, I miss the days where cell phone where... cell phones.
I don't need all that crap included with the phone... in fact, the phone seems to be in option... ridiculous!
Not any worse than the ads we have in the states.
Well... I'm Canadian. I didn't really notice any stereotypes... at least not the "Canadian" stereotypes I was looking for. I must say though, the commercial is kinda dumb. I also agreed with p00dl3.. who are they targeting with this? I mean, I can't see a bunch of lawn bowling seniors wanting one and don't even get me started on the roller-bitches. Who on earth thought of throwing them into the ad? lol (no offence to any roller-bitches that might read Tom's)
Stereotypical? Not even close. The biggest one, nobody said "eh" once. There were no lumberjacks, igloos, or snow. The ad was very vague and spent to much time on each group of people. A poor ad, but that is all Madison is capable of turning out now. Eh.
Old people... "What's Wikipedia?" >_>
Maybe it's stereotypical to apologize for stereotypes that aren't there, but just in case there are - so you're sure don't stereotype anyone.
Cause, that would be sooo stereotypically Canadian.
Errrr. Yeah, not sure what stereotypes were supposed to be there.
They showed women who like to roller skate and dressed up crazy. And some old folks playing lawn bowling.
I guess maybe they suggested that Americans aren't as active??
Two words; Bell Mobility. Why would anyone do that to themselves? Neat phone though.
Oh dude you are so right! What Bell does with their cellular and DSL business is just a shame, avoid both like the plaque! The phone is sweet though.
wheres rogers?

Creepy, isn't it?
Creepy, isn't it?
It's winter 9-10 months of the year here, I've seen igloos, I've known lumberjacks, and one of my coworkers says 'eh' every two sentences...
Though I dislike lawn bowling... but one of my uncles it pretty good.
Watching roller girls is also awesome.
P.S. I hate maple syrup, but I love beavers.
Where's my Loon (to ppl not from Canada, I'm talking about the Canadian Geese)? I don't see any reason why this is even newsworthy... It's a boring, plain ad for the Palm Pre.
I would think the Molson ad would be more newsworthy than this:
"Molson, colder than most people from Toronto". Hell, I'm from Toronto and I find this ad more interesting and more of a conversation piece than this bland ad.
