Verizon's New Jetpack 4G LTE Service is Global-Ready

Verizon now has a 4G LTE hotspot device that can be used on QuadBand EDGE and HSPA networks while the user travels outside the States.

On Monday, Verizon Wireless and Novatel Wireless jointly announced the Verizon Jetpack, a service featuring a Novatel Intelligent Mobile Hotspot. Now Verizon customers not only have a portable 4G LTE and 3G connection for up to 10 simultaneously-connected Wi-Fi devices, but the ability to connect with Quad Band EDGE and HSPA networks while traveling abroad.

"The Jetpack supports the latest security requirements, complying with the strictest corporate VPNs, including VPN pass-through and NAT firewall," Verizon said. "It includes new features such as an interactive OLED display, allowing customers to scroll through menu options, check security settings, view battery life and manage connected devices at any given time."

Using Novatel's MiFi 4620L, Verizon subscribers will have access to wireless data service in more than 205 countries, including more than 125 with 3G speeds. Verizon said that customers in the United States can expect fast download speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps in Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband coverage areas.

As for other features, the device supports Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and most other Wi-Fi-enabled devices, WEP/WPA/WPA2 security, and even offers one-touch connectivity. It uses advanced integrated antenna technology and measures just 3.76 x 2.36 x 0.53-inches.

The Verizon Jetpack - MiFi 4620L will be in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online at www.verizonwireless.com in the coming weeks. Pricing was not provided, so stay tuned.

I'm not sure if the "Jetpack" name is the best choice here.
I was expecting to see a James Bond style attachment now that allows me to hover above mere pedestrians to get better line of sight reception from the next cell tower :-)

did verizon fix the LTE outage issue?....how long before we have more problems.
