Samsung Names Newest Phone '' : ) ''
It's rare that lower-end phones make the news these days but Samsung's latest phone is a little bit different; it's named it after an emoticon.
Samsung launched three new phones this week and two out of the three have relatively normal names. The Gravity 3, Gravity T are easy to pronounce and don't warrant furrowed brows and general feelings of confusion. The third device, the Samsung : ), is a little different.
We're not sure how you're supposed to pronounce emoticons but we're going to say in this instance, it's a toss up between, "the Samung Smiley" and "the Samsung Happy Face."
All three feature QWERTY keyboards, though the one on the Gravity T is of the touch screen variety. Both of the Gravitys boast a 2-megapixel camera, an MP3 player, HTML browsers and support for up to 16GB of expandable memory. The Gravity T's touch screen display measures 2.8-inches and the Gravity 3's keyboard boasts both a regular, T9 pad as well as a slide-out QWERTY keypad.
The : ) is a little smaller and packs a 1.3-megapixel camera, and it's compact design includes a dedicated shortcut button for messaging applications.
No word on pricing just yet but we do know they'll be exclusive to T-Mobile.

I must admit I was thinking the same thing. It has such a good ring to it and rolls off the tongue beautifully.
: O
The Samsung Smile has a nice ring. 'Smiley' not so much.
"Samsung: End Bracket" was said, by a focus group, to have little to no appeal, and was actually more descriptive of the users who they are aiming this at.
In other news, Apple's next phone will be the ":-S" (type it in Yahoo! Messenger)
You'd think the
would be the name of a epic texting phone. How about a horizontal slide out cheap phone (same style as the others, but just cheaper).
Kudos to Samsung for the awesome naming scheme though.
It looks sarcastic to me.

"Ring" very bad pun, and colons may roll off your tongue but not mine, ewwwwww
Really, they left it up to us to define what we want to call it.
I nominiate the "Samsung Ho-bag". No reason why ...
And Samsung gets sued in 3....2....1....

Thanks in advance.
PS: How about the "SmileSung"
This article is exactly why they named it
...because it's the only way people will read about it and its specs.
Mission accomplished!

I just told a co-worker about this phone. That's EXACTLY how I described to them the name of it.
Think very carefully before buying a Samsung brand phone!!!
I have a Samsung Epix, a VERY expensive phone when I got it. On paper it has a lot of features, problem is that most of them don't work. PLUS there is no support from the manufacturer. An OS upgrade has been promised for almost 6 months but has not been made available. The GPS doesn't work and the internet access is VERY slow. By the time I figured all of this out it was too late to get a different phone and then I was stuck with it for 2 years.
awwwwwww....
too bad it didn't use sarcmarc™
That is so awesome

Umm, Josh, for those of us who don't use Yahoo! Messenger, would you be kind enough to share the joke?
Thanks.
