EA's Los Angeles studio is now hiring for "next generation" platforms.

There certainly is a lot of talk about next-generation platforms lately, enough so to make us wonder if something is indeed brewing behind the scenes. Electronic Arts is the latest gaming company to offer a glimpse into the near future, except it isn't doing a lot of talking or forecasting, but rather a little hiring instead.

Apparently, EA is looking to expand its Los Angeles-based development studio (EALA) to produce titles for next-generation platforms. The Los Angeles branch isn't exactly known for its AAA titles however: it was the team behind Steven Spielberg's Boom Blox and its sequel for the Nintendo Wii.

The job listing is actually over on Gamasutra, and is looking to fill jobs for Software Engineer: System and Tools, Rendering Engineer, and Senior Engineer: PlayStation 3. The jobs are also listed as "contract," so those looking for a salary with benefits will need to look elsewhere. The job also requires seven years experience and knowledge of the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Sony's PSP.

By the sound of the job listing, the once-Wii development studio is looking to hire on talent to develop games for the PS3 and Xbox 360. But when the company says "our next titles will be for the next generation," that leads one to think of the next round of gaming devices that may or may not appear within the next 5 years rather than the "current" generation of hardware.

ssalim :
It'll be called "EA Box"... -price: $399

Being that it's EA, it would become a $400 litter box.

Glad they're hiring, it's hard enough finding a job in this economy. Although, I don't like EA, but I do associate with them. Hooked on sims =[

Why do people always need to have experience?
Doesn't interest matter more than experience?

What are you with a 50yrs old programmer, who has 30yrs of programming experience, but does it against his will?

Youth and energy is no match for experience and treachery. Really!

Anyway, the "next gen" is probably the next gen Wii, rumored to come out in about a year, and with more Xbox 360-like performance than the current Wii. Neither MS nor Sony has anything close to a next-gen console yet, AFAICT. Not even specs for what one would be.

Hopefully these new developers they hire will bring back Sim City proper, not this Sim Societies crap.

If they are 50 years old, I doubt they are software engineers that are programming against their will. EA seems to be looking to get experienced people to build a whole new team. You can't have newbies in charge. I bet they look internally for people who understand the company.

EALA... Wii? What in the world? Have you even heard of Command and Conquer? Medal of Honor? EALA, being formerly Westwood Studios?

Do some research, dude.

I can't even imagine what you were thinking.

*EDIT

Not saying they haven't made a Wii title, but that they're known for more than (if not even not known for) a simple Wii title.
