Claude was down — Live updates on the AI service outage

Pretty much over

We're going to call it. The reports have been in a sharp decline for the last 15 minutes and finally dipped under 500 recently.

The Claude status page indicates that a fix was implemented about 10 minutes ago and still lists a partial outage. However, it does say that they are seeing successful recovery.

Reports rise again

We've been mostly seeing Downdetector reports staying steady of even declining during this outage, but they've jumped back up for the first time. It's a small spike, but it's enough to let us know that something is still not quite right.

A fix is in the works

Anthropic finally posted an update on Claude's status, but it doesn't offer much new information.

"Update - We are continuing to work on a fix for this issue," said the development team.

Users weigh in

"Claude Desktop App (Mac) and Claude Code both down reporting 'API Error 401' since 9:45am Pacific Time," said a user on Downdetector. While the reports are dropping steadily, there's clearly still a lot people dealing with issues.

All quiet from Claude

Anthropic hasn't posted any updates on the ongoing Claude outage, so we'll have to wait and see if anything new comes from the company about the status of its beloved AI tool.

The outage numbers are dropping again, with many users seemingly acknowledging that things are returning to normal. Sadly, Anthropic hasn't posted any new updates regarding the status, but we have to assume the company is working hard to fix things.

It's not just Claude.ai

Anthropic posted an update on Claude's status, stating, "This issue additionally affects login on other surfaces, such as Claude.code."

That means it might not be just the basic AI service that's having problems — if you're trying to write an app, it might not work either.

Another up and down Claude outage

As seems to be the pattern with Claude, this outage is going up and down in spikes. Perhaps it's because the outage is only impacting some users, so it's not that consistent Downdetector spike we see for most outages.

Anthropic acknowledged the outage

The Claude status page has received an update regarding the downtime, with Anthropic saying, "We have identified an issue resulting in elevated errors on Claude.ai, including desktop and mobile. Users may experience errors when attempting to login, engaging with voice mode, or completing chats with Claude. We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible."

The reports roll in

Downdetector reports for Claude sharply rose from the baseline to around 2,700 quickly. Generally, that many reports coming in a short time is a sign that something is wrong with a service, in this case, with Claude.
