I'm buying an iPhone 17 Pro this weekend. It wasn't planned, but I busted my iPhone 13 Pro at the gym last month. After finishing a set, I carelessly released the seated row attachment I was using and it landed squarely on my iPhone. The steel attachment sent my iPhone spinning in the air like an Olympic diver, except there was no elegant landing.
Instead, the upper half of my iPhone's screen is now cracked and my front camera is busted beyond repair. Surprisingly, the phone's still operable, but I decided it's time to retire it. The good news is that there are dozens of iPhone 17 preorders to choose from right now and this is the deal I'll likely get.
For a limited time, Verizon is offering the iPhone 17 Pro for free when you trade-in your old phone (in any condition) and sign up for Verizon's Unlimited Ultimate data plan. Even better, you'll get NFL Sunday Ticket from YouTube ($480 value) for free. I personally don't care for football, but this deal is just to good to pass on.
What makes this deal great — beyond the "free" aspect — is that you can trade-in any phone (from Apple, Google, Motorola, or Samsung) in any condition. Normally I'd take my iPhone to the Apple Store for a store credit, but its value diminishes greatly when your phone is busted.
Now there's a small chance I may get the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but I think I prefer the slightly more compact size of the iPhone 17 Pro. In our iPhone 17 Pro hands-on review, we said both Pro models have undergone the biggest changes in years, starting with powerful new processors, longer battery life, and a vapor chamber cooling system.
In terms of hardware, the new phone features a 6.3-inch OLED 120Hz display (2622 x 1206), A19 Pro chipset, and 256GB of storage. Yes, it's $100 pricier than the iPhone 16 Pro, but the new base model comes with 256GB of storage, whereas its predecessor came with just 128GB of storage. The new iPhone 17 Pro also includes a 48MP main, 48MP ultrawide, and 48MP w/ 4x zoom telephoto lens. Up front you'll find an 18MP camera.
There's also a new vapor chamber cooling system, which is designed to give the iPhone 17 Pro better sustained performance. We're still putting our review unit through our tests, but so far the iPhone 17 Pro seems like a worthy contender for best phone of 2025.
