This week’s State of Play Japan presentation included several noteworthy announcements, but the one that caught my eye was the reveal of a new PS5 and PC gaming monitor, which Sony is currently calling the “27” Gaming Monitor with DualSense Charging Hook.” Catchy!

Pitched as a monitor that “combines bold visuals and performance,” it’s set to release in the U.S. and Japan in 2026 (release in Europe and beyond has not been confirmed). The swanky announcement trailer (linked below) covers all the key features, and there are more details in a new PlayStation Blog post, which offers a “first look” at the upcoming gaming monitor.

Designed primarily for PS5 gaming within a desktop setup, it will also be compatible with PC and Mac. It packs a 27-inch QHD IPS display, offering up to 2560 x 1440 resolution. It also supports HDR, with Auto HDR Tone Mapping, VVR and a refresh rate up to 120Hz on PS5; this increases to 240Hz if you’re opting to game on a PC.

There are also built-in stereo speakers, but Sony is keen to note that it’ll pair even better with the upcoming Pulse Elevate wireless speakers, which were themselves showcased in a recent September State of Play.

One of the monitor’s most nifty inclusions is a charging hook for a DualSense (or DualSense Edge) controller. This adjustable arm sits directly below the monitor display and functions as a way to store your controller in between gaming sessions. It'll ensure your controller always has battery life when needed. That’s helpful because the DualSense battery life is short.

When it comes to ports, Sony has announced that this gaming monitor will offer two HDMI, one DisplayPort, two USB-A and one USB-C. The monitor is also compatible with “select VESA mounting systems,” and because the DualSense charging hook is built into the monitor itself rather than the stand, you won’t lose that functionality if you decide to mount it on a VESA.

But there’s one big question remaining

At this point, I’m sure you’re thinking there’s one big detail that hasn’t been covered: price. And unfortunately, that crucial information has yet to be revealed. We know the monitor will launch in 2026 in the U.S. and Japan, but Sony advises to “stay tuned for more information on launch date and availability in the coming months.”

Much as I think this gaming monitor looks pretty slick, I definitely have some concerns about how much it’ll cost. Sony’s hardware and accessory costs have crept up this console generation. For starters, earlier this year, it increased the prices of the entire PS5 lineup, with the regular PS5 going from $499 to $549, and the PS5 Pro increasing from $699 to $749.

PlayStation-branded accessories have also had pretty high price points in recent years. I was drawn to the PS5 Pulse Explore wireless earbuds, but found the $189 price prohibitive. And I’m still rocking a regular DualSense despite the PS5 Pro being my main gaming machine, because the $199 cost of the DualSense Edge is simply too expensive for my budget.

The best gaming monitors will already set you back as much $899, and while I don’t think this new PlayStation one will cost quite that much, I’m not expecting it to be a budget pick. Sony has taken a fairly aggressive approach to pricing in recent years, and I believe that trend will continue with this PS5-branded gaming monitor. You might want to start saving up now.

In the meantime, if you are looking to save, PlayStation recently launched its annual November Savings sale, which includes discounts on a range of the best PS5 games. And be sure to keep an eye on Tom’s Guide, as we’ll be bringing you the latest updates on this new PlayStation gaming monitor, including launch date and price, as soon as we have them.
