I would definitely cancel Disney Plus this month — here's why

Boo! It’s not just ghosts and ghouls haunting you this October — it’s also the creeping dread of an ever-growing streaming bill. With the holidays just around the corner (and gift lists that are scarier than any horror movie), now’s the perfect time to trim your subscriptions and free up some cash.

In 2025, streaming costs are higher than ever. Americans are spendingan average $61 a month on streaming, which adds up fast when you’re juggling multiple platforms. The good news? You can always cancel a service for a spell and come back when the lineup looks better. In October 2025, the one I’d put on the chopping block is Disney Plus. Here’s why it might be worth ghosting it this month.

Why I'd cancel Disney Plus in October 2025

Plenty of households treat Disney Plus as indispensable, thanks to its deep library of Marvel blockbusters, Pixar comfort rewatches and endless kid-friendly options. But October isn’t really testing that loyalty. The slate of new releases is so thin that most households won’t miss much if they hit pause until next month.

Probably the most well-known title is "Vampirina: Teenage Vampire," a revival of the once-popular animated heroine in live-action form. Vee (Kenzi Richardson), now 14, leaves Transylvania for a performing arts boarding school, where she tries to nurture her love of music while keeping her vampire identity hidden from classmates — who happen to be vampire hunters.

Then there's "The Balloonist," a Dutch tragicomedy that follows Gabby (Sallie Harmsen), whose quiet life unravels when an arrogant hot-air balloon pilot crash-lands on her chicken coop. Meanwhile, in the travel docuseries "Traveling with Snow Man," Japan’s biggest boy band goes on a journey from Okinawa to Hokkaido to explore local culture, food and landscapes while reflecting on their futures.

Why I'd cancel Disney Plus in August 2025

If you needed another reason to put Disney Plus on pause, here it is: Prices are going up again starting October 21.

The ad-supported plan will jump from $9.99 to $11.99 a month, while the ad-free option climbs to $18.99 from $15.99. Bundles are also getting a price hike: The Disney Plus/Hulu combo with ads is rising to $12.99, and even the Disney/Hulu/ESPN and Disney/Hulu/HBO Max packages are tacking on a few extra dollars each. The only one holding steady is the ad-free Disney Plus and Hulu bundle at $19.99.

So whether you subscribe to Disney Plus alone or through a bundle, you’re about to pay more. Hitting cancel could save you $12 to $19, depending on your plan. It might not sound like a fortune, but in the middle of spooky season — with holiday shopping lurking right around the corner — any bit of savings matters. And if you’re strategic about cycling through streamers, you could shave hundreds off your annual budget.
