When I head out on a run or walk, I always take a pair of the best wireless earbuds with me. And after extensive audio testing, open-earbuds are the best option for me. But you don't have to spend a lot to get good quality.

But as I head out in the darker evenings, I know my number one priority is not only remaining aware of my surroundings, but making sure people in my surroundings are aware of me.
