TSMC Decreasing Wafer Expansion by 20%
Taipei (Taiwan) - Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC) is decreasing its 12" wafer expansion in 2008 due to an industry downturn. A reduction in captial expenditures by 20-30% will result in less 300mm wafer expansion. One such fabrication facility, called Fab 14, is being reduced by half the original pace planned for its construction. In 2007, TSMC spend $2.6 billion on capital expenditures. A reduction of 30% would place that number now at $1.8 billion in 2008.
