4. Screen Brightness And Contrast: Strong Points

Brightness 154
Minimum 110
Maximum 173

The M400's display shows very good contrast and brightness. I measured average brightness at 154 candelas/m^2. Minimum and maximum brightness were 110 and 173 candelas/m^2, making the range of brightness across the display a pretty low 63 candelas/m^2. The Spatial Uniformity of Brightness plot also shows the relatively low brightness distribution range. Brightness is pretty even, except in the more central areas of the display where it peaks between 160 and 180 candelas/m^2. The differences aren't visible when looking at a black or white screen or a screen with open applications.

Contrast 242
Minimum 192
Maximum 282

The display's contrast ratio, as I measured it, was quite high at 242. With a minimum contrast of 192 and a maximum of 283, the M400's display showed a contrast range of 90, somewhat higher than the brightness range. The Spatial Uniformity of Contrast chart shows this ranging in detail. Contrast falls off at the top of the display and peaks on the sides and bottom corners. As with brightness, contrast differences aren't visible on screen in normal use.
