Toshiba has licensed the XDR memory controller interface cell (XIO) and XDR memory controller (XMC) technology for use in "next-generation" high-definition TVs, Rambus announced today. Both the XIO and XMC will be manufactured by Toshiba in a 65 nm process. Rambus said the XDR memory will provide a data bandwidth of 4.8 Gb/s.
According to the company, the memory technology will enable features such as 120 MHz refresh rates in 1080p TVs, coupled with 12-bit color, multiple full HD picture-in-picture data streams, and "advanced image enhancement algorithms".
Financial terms of the deal were kept confidential.
