7. Benchmark Results

Both notebooks use SLI for enhanced 3D performance, but the XPS M1730’s newer DirectX 10 capable GeForce Go 8700M appears to be derived from a slightly downscale model compared to Alienware’s DX9 generation GeForce Go 7950GTX. Can the newer technology make up for the difference in market position?

3D Games

Doom 3

The XPS M1730’s faster processor pushes higher frame rates at low resolutions in Doom 3, but the Area-51 m9750’s elaborate graphics hardware makes huge gains against it as resolutions increase.

Turning on Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering puts Alienware in the lead across all tested Doom 3 resolutions. Notice that the Area-51 m9750 loses far less performance when set to high quality visual effects compared to the XPS M1730. Still, the M1730 is capable of perfectly-smooth Doom 3 frame rates at the panel’s native resolution.

Hey since you guy wrote this review alienware has released an updated version of the m9750 which has dual mobile 8700s which give it directX 10 support and they added the option of putting in a creative X-FI sound card as well. I would love to know how well those dual 8700s work, together are they more powerful than a single 8800 GTX?????, And how may full-str3eam processors are active in each one????
