Sega Saturn, Genesis Zippo Lighters Are Real

Puff, puff... play?

Around 33 percent of the Japanese population smoke, which means that there could be some special demand for lighters. And it so happens that Sega is helping to bring out some very special Zippo lighters.

For 10,500 yen per lighter, you can get a little reproduction of the Mega Drive (known as the Genesis in North America) or the Sega Saturn. Sadly, they don't play games – unless you count playing with fire as a game.

Do you think that something like this would be received well in the Western market? Let us know in the comments below!

Didn't your parents tell you playing with fire is dangerous? ;)

I'll take one of these Zippos, at least it is made in the USA.

Absolutely love the Mega Drive version (Genesis to the Yanks). Its way way more iconic than the Saturn which was a bit of a failure in my opinion. Bring em over to the UK, I dont smoke, but Id have one of these for the cool factor and for lighting candles and maybe even to save my life in a potential survival situation.....hmmm right!

Actually I think they would have a hard time selling that in the U.S. There would be lawsuits galore as the universal thought that a console gaming machine is marketed toward minors and by making a lighter look like a console then the company would be involved with targeted minors in the use of smoking. Remember the whole Camel the Camel cartoon character? I know it sounds dumb but whatch it happen.

"by far the dorkiest and most pathetic thing i have ever seen"

Considering this is a tech site I think it's fair to say the majority of the userbase is made up of geeks/nerds/beardy basement dwellers so this would go down a storm!

But remember, practically anyone who's ever played a Saturn or Genesis is plenty old enough to smoke (or drink) now.

Oh, and his name was Joe Camel.

When I read the title I thought it would play the games too =( With PSP and DSi having more than enough computing capacity it should be possible despite the obvious problem with it also being used to set fire!

Who am I kidding, they could just use an iPhone with less explosion and more fire!

Funny line, but everybody knows you can't spark a bowl with a Zippo!

So there goes my idea for an Elmo torch lighter. =(

Surely all you folks in the US can just find out where they're being manufactured and order one (and get it cheaper).

My Zippo re-fillable butane i paid $30 for in 1986 came with lifetime warranty, made in Japan. Great lighter, lost it a little over a year ago. Bought another on Ebay N.O.S. for almost $100. My Navy Zippo's are USA made but non butane lighters leak the liquid fuel from them into your pockets.

I'm starting to wonder lately. Does Tom's Hardware to marketing research for companies now?
