Sony: We're Not Arrogant; Apple is Arrogant!
Sony seems to have been thinking about Apple quite a bit lately.
At one time not too long ago, Sony was the undoubted leader in the video game space. It hit the industry with a bang with the original PlayStation which lead the generation. Then the PlayStation 2 hit and became an even bigger hit. But the lead didn't hold when Sony unveiled the PlayStation 3 at $599.
It seems that being removed from first place has humbled Sony, which now knows that it is capable of fault. No longer is Sony as arrogant as it once was. Now, it believes that another consumer electronics company has taken the crown of arrogance.
According to CVG, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia's managing director Michael Ephraim said to the Brisbane Times, "I don't think we [Sony] are arrogant anymore. I think we can name a company that is a fruit that is in the news a lot about their arrogance. I think they have taken the mantle from us, if we were ever arrogant!"
"I don't think we were arrogant. We know there are a lot of challenges in this space, but we're very comfortable, especially with 3D across the entire Sony group. There's no company that can deliver that like we can," Ephraim continued.
In related news, Engadget reports that Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer said during the Google I/O conference that the Android-based Xperia X10 smartphone was the best-selling handset in Japan, and that "when you beat Apple, you're dominating -- it's the new definition."

^5 Sony
when will people learn, apple products use old tech at new tech prices...
For once I do agree with Sony
^^
As long as they wrap their tech in a pretty package no one will ever notice.
"when you beat Apple, you're dominating -- it's the new definition."
maybe not in the PC space but on phones id agree
i'll agree with that apple is very arrogant and i find myself avoiding apple more then sony (total surprise to me, i would never have taught that years ago)
It must be Friday:
The fruit - on the other hand starts out at twice the retail price.
I think there is little difference between the two.
I love that x10.
As far as I can tell, both companies are arrogant.
Sony saying they aren't arrogant compared to Apple is like saying rape isn't that bad, only because murder is worse.
Sorry, but defending yourself by saying someone else is even worse than you is just lame...
A silly thing perhaps, but I chose HTC Desire over the X10 simply because the X10 doesn't have multi-touch (hardware issue prevents it apparently).
It must be Friday: Says the man about his company that just cut the value off all Fat PS3s in half. The fruit - on the other hand starts out at twice the retail price.I think there is little difference between the two.
The value of reselling a product isn't a measure of arrogance.
Your comment is an example of it though.
Pot calling Kettle black. Now if Sony said Apple is way more arrogant then we could ever try to be, then I would agree.
Apple is arrogant. People listen to them though. Personally I think they're sheep but you can't argue with the bottom line.
This is the Pot Calling the Kettle Black. Either company can be either piece of cookware in the analogy. From time to time every company is arrogant. Just for Apple, that time seems to be coming more often lately.
where does it say Sony calling Apple arrogant? Unless it says something in the full article, but I don't care to read it. They just say they're not as arrogant as other companies, and then they brag about outselling the iPhone in Japan.
After Apple's tumultuous history, I think they deserve to be arrogant now. Everyone wrote them off in the 90s and put money on them bankrupting at any time, but they kept rebounding and then tapped a fresh market like no other company could. Apple hate is pretty much tech envy from fanboys. If Microsoft or some other company were to release an exact copy of the iPad/iPhone/iPod with a different company logo, Apple haters would go crazy for it.
I think Microsoft is and always will be tops in arrogance.
Every successful person or company gets arrogant after a while. That's why I always go for the hungry underdog willing to please.

Eh?
What old tech? The i5 or i7 CPU's, the trackpad, the unibody design, etc.? Wait, you must be referring to the OS built on the UNIX kernal. Apple may charge premium prices, but one thing they cannot be accused of is using antiquated components and designing antiquated devices. In fact, it would serve you well to research the 'firsts' that Apple has been responsible for in the computer industry since their inception.
Does that mean that Blackberry and Nokia have been dominating iPhone for as long as iPhones have existed?
I think it does. The iphone got beat by the original curve. The curve are you kidding me. I am still using one and believe me they suck compared to the new stuff out. I am so glad that android is open. Just look at all the innovation that has happened within a year.

No, I hate Apple because they are giving other companies the idea that locked in and crippled products are ok to produce if the package is slick enough.
I also feel pity for the iSheep for accepting that kind of treatment.

LMAO, what a retard.
Try harder. moron.

Don't forget to mention their cutting edge graphics cards!!!

What is the processor in the macbook? What it the graphics card in the macbook? Yes up til a month ago they had antiquated hardware, and yes they were still charging 2000 for that antiquated hardware. One major first (and an important first) that apple doesnt have is flash.

Apple has never been very inventive, outside of the original floppy disk controller for the Apple II, but you're quite right about them using newer technology that existed in their products before other companies. This includes the GUI/Mouse, SCSI, NuBus, Apple II with slots, 3.5 inch floppy, etc...
I will give you credit for pointing out Unix is obsolete, and giving both sides, which most people don't do because they just want to win an argument rather than being even-handed and correct. To Apple's credit though, the hide the ugliness of Unix better than anyone, but, agreed it's still slapping lipstick on a pig. But at least Apple adds mascara.
RIP SWG Nov 15 2005.
Let us not forget they created Mini DisplayPort, and the Webkit engine.
But for the most part I will agree that Apple hasn't really done anything truly inventive. But what they do well is make current hardware something people actually want to buy (maybe not the people on this website, but the general consumer).
Personally I think Apple's marketing division should get a A+ and a huge bonus. Of course it won't fool those people who know something about hardware, but the masses know nothing about hardware, they just want it to work.
And I'm not too sure if I would go around saying Unix is "obsolete."
I love how he starts his statement with "I don't think we were arrogant" and ends it with "There's no company that can deliver that like we can."
From a business perspective Apple is a liability and needs to be "humbled" or replaced. I have more respect for the underdog even if its a slacker. Also being poor one learns to appreciate the value of hard earned trust and the spoils that come with it. Being small can be a benefit in times of difficult business environment when the large suffer under the weight of the fat that is management and share holders. They also show the inability to adapt to local economies and lack the understanding of how different cultures work.
This is coming from a back woods Texas redneck....
